not to be confused with frank zappa's "dental hygiene dilemma" (from the "200 motels" album) .

i have been playing display roulette for a couple of days ...
i "forgot" to swap out the touch screen when i re-built/put together a display for the '30 MK1 (or is that MK2 because of the bios/EC) ...
    i used a MK1 back screen and ccfl (the only thing that runs/pins-out/connectorized for a MK1 motherboard) and swapped it out with a display from either a '37 or a MK2/3 ... hell , i can't remember now .
yep , i got the technicolor swirlies ... but the touchscreen worked .

i swapped the touchscreen out for one out of a MK2/3 or a '37 (yeah ... i said it before) .
everything works ok ... plenty bright enough , cleaner than a pin ... except that the touchscreen did not work .
the machine wouldn't even see the touchscreen .
i finally pulled off the back , disconnected the internal touchscreen and hooked up the old one (externally) ... taa-daa !
there is a helluva connector difference between the interface for the touchscreen from the '37 (or whatever it is) ...
so i am betting that there is no chance for some judiciously applied wire surgery .

at this point it seems that the only fix is to get either the full MK1 display or the lcd/driver portion and swap it out with the one from the '37 .

Older touchscreens may be serial interface and the newer ones are USB...

Ok! Can we go back again. I don't understand what you are trying to do. You keep mentioning 37. Lets start again, are you trying to interchange the lcd panel from what unit. Sorry! but be specific. We already discussed this type of work. Maybe you only need a bit of searching on the old thread. Just a quick res...You can't swich the whole assembly of MK1 to MK2 or MK3 unless you interchange the LCD cable, that is the first. Second, you cannot use TS panel from MK1 and MK2 to MK3 with oem LCD of MK3. It will create like a rainbow effect But if you are not sensitive to the clarity of an MK3 screen. You can swap the whole LCD assembly of Mk2 to MK3 but as I said, mk3 has good clarity than MK1 or MK2.

Some screens may be slightly polarized.
If you use parts from other models they may be polarized differently and that may be
causing your " technicolor swirlies ".
I suggest using the correct parts.

Getting a technicolor swirlie is much better than getting a toilet swirlie.

    heh ...
i gave my nephew a swirlie when he was 7 years old .
he kept teasing his sister that was 5 years old .
i told him that if he didn't stop i would dunk his head in the toilet and flush it .
    "you wouldn't do that !"
    "wanna bet ?"

i recall reading *something* about the displays needing to be matched correctly with the touch screen assembly .
i can certainly appreciate the physics behind this fact .
between my haste to get the machine running and swapping a good lcd from from a MK2/3 to my/the/a MK1 back light frame i forgot about this very important fact .
(my forgetter is working even better these days than it did in the past --- some people call it CRS)

i took a break from the MK1 project for a day or so in order to work on a couple of other *more pressing* issues .
i am now back to looking for a good MK1 lcd to put into the good back light frame .
i have been looking at kneesbay and found a display ... but the guy had stated that it was "with touch screen" when there was no indication of such in the nice photographs .
i sent a message asking about this ... he replied that he had made a mistake and had corrected the issue ...
now , let's see if he corrected the price to reflect his faux pas .

i would rather buy from someone at these forums than someone i do not know .
the italians call it "keeping it in the family" ...
come to think of it , i heard and seen examples of that same saying when i visited arkansas .

'at's why I'm getting these calls. My problem beardo is I have one (1) lower quality unit around and no parts.

Now if you need a six-pack of CCS85BM...give me a call. So much for dealing with top of the line units.

    What to do?
