Hey guys, I got a CF-30 without an optical drive - if I'm looking for just the carrier to put a laptop DVD writer in, is it a PATA or SATA connection? (not the hard drive.)
-
Its Pata
Alex -
What about a CF-52? That would be SATA right? (as well as the CF-30?)
-
I don't have a cf-52 around to check
Rob, we are talking about optical drives/not hard drives
Alex -
-
Yes,Yes,Yes!
But if it don't Run, you have to do something ,
Pls check:
DVD 50 pin -
There was no jumper needed on my cf-30 caddy to install UJ-831s drive, so I would say try it, if no work do the jumper mod
Alex -
I've to MOD the UJ-875
-
I just bought, but still have to install a UJ-870
I will post when I swap it out
It’s newer like your uj-875 so unfortunately I might have to mod it I guess
Alex -
May be the seeting is difference, to me, I have to MOD it, so I collect the info. and make the page fo ref.

I coulda SWORN that this thread was asking about a cf-29 optical!!! Now I see that it asking about the CF-30 optical... -
Rob that Sony is a sata optical drive the cf-30 is pata optical drive
Alex -
I have a different one saved , just in case
Alex -
Sorry Alex... gah!!! lol I know... But it's good to know that a normal IDE blu-ray exists because my buddy will adventually want that in his CF-52... and regardless of what the optical is (IDE or SATA) we're covered
-
-
Only the cf-30 caddy was good to go as is
But I have a faster drive on order, so I might have to get out my magnifing glasses, and soldering iron
Alex -
I would probably just take the DVD multi Drive (+-R/RW etc...) out of the caddy on the CF-52, sell it and then put in a blu-ray drive... I'll probably take it apart when it comes in and post my findings
-
I think the video card is good on that model for blu-ray
The integrated video on the cf-30 will not work
Alex -
I have to open the 875, on the PCB there is three solder pad near the 45,47, make sure which is the 45 and 47 and short it , and its ready to GO.
-
awww that Pata bluray is calling out to me.. but... I need a CF-30 caddy first!! They're all like, $200+ on eBay!!
-
The display on your CF-30 isn't native 1920x1080, so who cares about Blu-Ray?
The native 1024x768 display that comes on these really can't show all the detail provided by a good upconverting DVD player; I see no point in spending $400 for a drive you can't really utilize.
DVD9 blanks are now around 60c each; Blu-Ray25 are still around 4 bux... no advantage there for doing backups, either... so I say...
Save the money and buy a used PS3.

DVDon't! -
I already have a PS3. My friends though I was nuts. Probably am. I bought the PS3 solely to play Little Big Planet. Hahahaa.
Now that I think about it - you're right. Why BluRay? because I can. LOL. Ok, yeah, I'm not so gung-ho on it anymore! I'm getting a Sony XDCAM HD camera from work in the near future, and the camera has Gigabit Ethernet built-in! I wonder if they can backup data and not just video (the $10k recorder looks like a regular data drive on the computer!)
