Hey guys, I got a CF-30 without an optical drive - if I'm looking for just the carrier to put a laptop DVD writer in, is it a PATA or SATA connection? (not the hard drive.)

What about a CF-52? That would be SATA right? (as well as the CF-30?)

I know! I wanna know because you know my buddy that's got the CF-52 in the mail... well his first mod will probably be a 1920 screen and a blu-ray player. All the blu-ray players on eBay are all SATA - this is why I'm asking :D

There was no jumper needed on my cf-30 caddy to install UJ-831s drive, so I would say try it, if no work do the jumper mod

Yes all of my cd caddys for the cf28/cf29 had to be modded as well
Only the cf-30 caddy was good to go as is
But I have a faster drive on order, so I might have to get out my magnifing glasses, and soldering iron

I would probably just take the DVD multi Drive (+-R/RW etc...) out of the caddy on the CF-52, sell it and then put in a blu-ray drive... I'll probably take it apart when it comes in and post my findings :)

I think the video card is good on that model for blu-ray
The integrated video on the cf-30 will not work

    Ummm... Why?

The display on your CF-30 isn't native 1920x1080, so who cares about Blu-Ray?

The native 1024x768 display that comes on these really can't show all the detail provided by a good upconverting DVD player; I see no point in spending $400 for a drive you can't really utilize.

DVD9 blanks are now around 60c each; Blu-Ray25 are still around 4 bux... no advantage there for doing backups, either... so I say...

Save the money and buy a used PS3. ;)

I already have a PS3. My friends though I was nuts. Probably am. I bought the PS3 solely to play Little Big Planet. Hahahaa.

Now that I think about it - you're right. Why BluRay? because I can. LOL. Ok, yeah, I'm not so gung-ho on it anymore! I'm getting a Sony XDCAM HD camera from work in the near future, and the camera has Gigabit Ethernet built-in! I wonder if they can backup data and not just video (the $10k recorder looks like a regular data drive on the computer!)
