So i just decided to dual boot my xp pro and my vista business... no problems at all their (I was bored at work yesterday lol)... all the drivers are working except the sound drivers.... bluetooth, internal sprint, you name it it works.... but no damn sound... i've tried the xp drivers and the vista drivers and nothing. the other problem im having is: right outta the box (including during installation, which i was impressed with) the touchscreen worked, but it was horribly uncalibrated. i tried the xp drivers and the vista drivers for the touchscreen and nothing... the touchscreen works, but i cannot calibrate it. when i run the calibration utility after im done, it just errors out.
btw just for reference here is some extra info:
*Bluetooth: windows xp drivers
*internal sprint rev a (MC5725): windows xp sprint wan connection manager
*hotkey drivers: XP (Vista ones worked but no blue and yellow display on the screen, which i like)
*The battery doesn't last near as long with all power saving options turned off in vista compared to xp.

Looks like you have a great laptop! Not sure about the driver errors. Sounds like a conflict somewhere...
-
yeah, lol no kiddin... it drives me nuts because THEIR IS NOTHING I CAN'T FIX damnit lol... i work at a computer tech shop and fix these things all day, and this thing is driving me nuts lol... o well maybe i should do myself a favor and delete the vista partition and rebuilt the boot.ini and just use xp lol
-
Have you tried deleting the drivers and then rebooting and let Windows reinstall them?
-
tried it... no go... windows vista tried to find tons of drivers from windows up date as it was and thats where it went from their... according to device manager everything is fine, but obviously i know elsewise.
-
JB....
I am going through the same thing as you are.... I have a brand new CF30-CCS80BM and tied vista business, and no go....all the same problems you are having...I couldn't get my Verizon Access Manager to work either... My GPS seemed to work ok.....Along with the LONG BOOT UP TIME...I am convinced that Bill Gates can keep his VISTA.... Did a fresh restore of XP and 100% back up and running....I am waiting until at least there is Service Pack 1 for Vista Business...... Ever use this site for resources on your Panasonic??? https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pc/itn/drivers/d_menu_en.html
Works well for me... -
Dumb question time... Have you guys tried calling Panasonic?
-
I am giving up all hope for the panasonic tech line......They are worried more about getting your phone number and serial number, rather than helping you fix the problem at hand...
-
what have you got to hide? a stolen toughbook lol? i don't mind telling them my name phone and serial number... its for warranty verification anyways. but no, screw calling panasonic *thumbs down*... at least their tech support isn't in india, and for the average consumer (not that an average consumer would buy a toughbook, especially a fully rugged), the support is prolly a million times better than any other company... its kinda hard getting support when you know that you know more than 99% of everyone out their including panasonic technitions.
-
Nothing to hide here....Can't hide anymore with the new "Computrace" embedded software in the BIOS chip on these 30's.....I bet you won't see too many of these on Ebay just because of that feature.... The key is, it has to be enabled in BIOS for it to become active....Hopefully the IT depts of whoever buys 30's would activate this feature for their protection... On another note, I give the techs credit, but due to the fact that I am in the field, i know just as much as they do if not a wee bit more...
I am glad to see Bill Gates has his hands in the fact of compatability of Vista, and all the BS that is with Vista... I had the same opinion of XP when it first came out, until the first service pack, then it got 1000x better.... So, if anyone can figure out the sound issue, I would be happy to reinstall Vista Business...I like the fact that it boots pretty quick, I am guessing that 2Gig of ram helps that out... Anyway, that is my 2 cents for now.... -
speaking of computrace, what is it, what can it do for me and how much does it cost (i didn't dare enable it in the bios for fear of not being able to disable it)... i wanna protect my $5000 toughbook if it gets stolen), but i don't know how much it costs. I went to their website (absolute.com) and applied for information. im trying to do some research, but its kinda confusing... im not an expert on this computrace
-
Computrace is a protocall that once enabled in BIOS, from what I read up CAN NOT BE DISABLED!!! Every time that the computer connects to the internet, it send a burst of something to the computrace mainframe, to let the system know where it is at all times....I guess it is like a gps, but only through the internet rather than the sky.... Once Absolute gets a request from the owner of the stolen laptop, they track it, then forward records to the authorities and the owner of the laptop... I am not sure of the cost either...I know that it is embedded in a small part of the BIOS chip, and CANT be erased...So, like a lot of the 28's 29's that are stolen, and put on ebay, this will eliminate that problem with the CF30's ONLY if computrace is enabled..I am not too keen on the idea of someone knowing where me or my laptop is at all times... But others might not mind..

I don't know if anyone else has got there touch screen working. On my CF-30 the touch screen worked but just like the panasonic web site said that the calibration tool donsn't work, it crashes. The calibration tool from the xp driver download off of the panisonic website works.
-
well,
let me say, i install vista ultimate onto a cf-28 and also ran into afew problems but manage to sort it out,
use pc wizard or everest or some sort of software which will tell you which sound card is installed once you have that info go to the website for example if it was by creative then go to that site and download the drivers,
you dont really need to wait for panasonic to upload the drivers you can find them urself,
or if stuck just google it!!! -
I also installed a retail version of Vista premium on it and decided to go back due to not being able to get bluetooth to work and wifi took forever to pick up my router thats sitting less than a foot away. I went back to XP, so much faster and battery lasts so much longer and its actually only using 300MB of RAM idle instead of closer to 1 GB.
-
well about battery it could simply be the battery software not loaded which perserves the battery when using,
bluetooth is also not a big problem you be able to get the drive if you look in the right place...
when you start using vista it is really bloated, i always no matter what os have to tweak it abit, you be surprise how much **** is running in the back groung which you will never ever use.......
with xp there is like 10 services which i have to switch off no matter what before i tweak it........
i used vista ultimate edition on my toughbook for a good while till i went back to xp, and my toughbook is only a 1ghz with 768ram and 120gb hard drive and it was running perfectly,
only time i felt it slow when i tried a stripped down version for a 600mhz toughbook then it sort of hang in places..........
if you really would perfer vista on ur toughbook let me know,
and i'll help out next time around with a special version........ -
DJ... What are the 10 things you switch off???
-
