I am starting to load W7 Ultimate on my MK1 CF-30 today. Panasonic doesn't support this and I know that there are several us on here who are having issues such as;
- No Touchscreen Calibration or no touchscreen functionality at all. W7 knows you have a touchscreen... You just can't calibrate it.
- No sound
I just started loading W7 onto a new WD 320GB, 7200RPM SATA hard drive. The first thing I noticed was the cursor jumping around. It wanted to retreat up to the top right corner. So I figure... Maybe part of the problem is that I need to turn off the touchscreen in the BIOS. This may sound stupid but I have never really had the need to go into mine and play around other than when I first bought it. And that was about a year and a half ago. I notice that there is NO touchscreen enable/disable in the BIOS of my MK1!!! I couldn't believe it. The option is in every other BIOS I have seen where a touchscreen was an option. By this time I had canceled the installation so I could go back into the BIOS. Once I saw there was no option I figured I would try it again. Now W7 had created a 100MB partition that I didn't want so I tried to delete it. It wouldn't let me so I took my drive out and plugged it in via USB into my shop PC and did a quick format and killed the 100MB partition. So now I put it all back together and start to load W7 again.... WEIRD.... No dancing cursor this time! I have no idea what this means... Other than maybe my touchscreen is about to go bad. But it looks good so far. The calibration is about a half an inch off.
Anyway... It is in the middle of installing now. I will scan Panny's site for drivers though Rob sent me some.... I figure I'll follow my nose and see where it leads... Right now just jamming to old Van Halen and loading stuff up.
Hopefully this thread will end up highlighting the total process to get everything working on the MK1 CF-30.
I'll post back when I start installing drivers....

Here is what I sent Rick for drivers: http://toughbooktalk.com/public_downloads/index.php?dir=CF-30 Windows 7 Drivers/
-
Rick W7 creates a 100mb boot partition by default, and I am not sure what if anything can be done about it.
-
Yeah... But I wiped it slick as it wanted to create a second one when I tried the 2nd time.
Update... It is all loaded and I am trying various drivers. No touchscreen yet but I seem to have sound. I tried to install MK1 sound and it wouldn't take... So I tried MK3 and it wouldn't show that it updated... But it must have as I have sound... But it doesn't show as SigmaTel... Just "High Definition Audio"
I used the MK1 Hotkey driver but installed the MK3 HKeySet And Appendix... Hotkeys work great.
Only one issue in Device Manager and it reads as Biometric CoProcessor which I assume is the fingerprint scanner.
more in a few... -
Did you just delete the 100 mb partition?
-
When I went to install W7 the 1st time... It showed the whole drive... The 2nd time it showed the 100MB partition. I know Win7 wanted to use that but it wanted to create (seemingly) a 2nd 100MB partition. Just so I didn't screw anything up... I just formatted the drive and did it again.
I am installing ZoneAlarm now since I have web access and loaded my Ubiquiti driver for my ABN WLAN. -
Hmmmm... I cannot install my video driver...
-
-
Yeah... But it is maxed out at 1024X768! I want better than that!
EDIT: I also have somerthing called Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface.... I guess I need to check that out too!
Also... Unless I disable the Serial Ball point my pointer jumps all over... I guess I need to install the GPS patch? -
The Serial Ballpoint disappeared when I installed the GPS patch....
Still working on the video (I want better than 1024 X 768!) and the touchscreen... -
Are you looking to get 1280 x 1024?
-
At least..... I usually have a lot of desktop icons so I can just click on them. W7 doesn't like to do that.
I am also having issues trying to get the battery recalibration tool to load. It requires the "Misc" driver... But I installed that.
I figured I need to get this up and operating so that I don't need to put my XP disk back in and I can continue to use this and work on it while I can still do business with and on it. I don't need the touchscreen to do that but I would like basic functionality.... The video is uppermost..... I also cannot connect to the HP Laserjet 1200 that I have on wireless server as HP says they do not support W7 for that model.... We'll see.... -
Seems there is a "Misc Driver" that will not allow other drivers to install. (No I haven't figured out the touchscreen yet!) I am trying to get this working laptop-wise. Toughbooks are SO much more than regular ones.... No problem.. We'll (I'll) just have to work a little harder.)
I loaded the SD card Driver and now there is another "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.... -

Hmmmm... This is the first time I have loaded anything other than XP on this machine.... You'd think I'd know that from past experience with other models. It's not a factor now though.
A few things so far.... I LOVE W7!!! It will take some getting used to but I like learning new things anyway. Seems like it has all the same stuff as XP Pro.... Just repackaged, slicker, quicker and better for you.
I will deal with the touchscreen eventually.... But I do want all the Panny creature comforts like the loupe utility and battery recal. All of these seemingy need a "Misc" driver... All models have it. The only problem is that the MK1 versiondoesn't like W7 and the mk2,3 versions don't like MK1....
I think I have enough stuff installed now that I can get along for using this instead of switching back to my XP pro drive.... Except I think I need to put it in one last time to park the IGuidance COA back on thier site so I can retreive it for this one. (How they roll...)
Overall.... I'm a little disappointed with Panasonic and a few of the other manufacturers for not having W7 updates already.... It' not like they didn't know this was coming.... But I swear it's a conspriacy... Planned obsolesence... The printer manufacturers want you to buy new printers, the laptop manufacturers want you to buy new laptops.... It kind of ticks me off and makes me even MORE determined to figure this all out. (And I am nort usually a conspiracy theorist.) -
Try
Right click on application
(Run as administrator)
And various driver order
Alex -
I tried that on a few... No soap.... But not on all of them.... I'll give it a shot.
-
-
I could swear tht I had higher res than that... Maybe I need to adjust the icon size....
I still cannot get the misc driver to load... I've tried all versions all different ways! Any thoughts? -
Well... I got the misc driver to install. I looked into Device Manager and saw an unknown device... I looked into he Advanced tab there and I could tell it was where the misc driver tried... But failed. I updated the driver from there and it installed. I now have battery recalibration.

Panasonic makes premium hardware, but their driver and software support is terrible.
I don't think it's a conspiracy though. It's more likely to be simple incompetence. -
Well... After a chat with Bill (Azrial) today I tried a suggestion he had... To go into Services and shut down some of the things that may be keeping the TS driver from loading. I disabled the USB Input device for the touchscreen for W7 and installed the MK3 TS driver on my MK 1... I actually seemed to work... Though it didn't install ALL the software.
I used the CalTUwin driver to calibrate and it actually went through the motions (At lightning speed I might add)... But in the end there was a calibration error... Similar to when a TS is going bad.
I have some traveling to do tomorrow so I wouldn't be available to play around with it. But I'll be back tomorrow night trying to work it out. I have just about everything else working on my MK1 though. I'll have to give it the once over when i think I am ready....
I'll keep the group posted. -
I found in my mk-2 installation the the Generic W7 driver that was installed originaly worked fine ,the touchscreen worked without the panasonic touchscreen driver
But like you I am unable to calibrate
Alex -
I was able to substitute the std mouse driver for the Fujitsu mouse driver... But then that took away the touchscreen functionality.
There has to be a way to do this. Since I have started transferring all my stuff over to this driver.... And liking W7 Ultimate... I really don't want to go back to XP.
I also installed Google Chrome. That will take some getting used to also... But it sure is speedy! -
I was thinking would say installing on an MK3 and then taking that caddy and inserting it in an MK1 work? I seem to recall when Vista came out something about being able to switch hard drives between different computers without problems. Something about how the HAL layer was handled being different. Can anybody recall that or was I just dreaming. I think I heard it at a Vista launch tour where I got a free copy of Vista still unused and a copy of office 2007.
-
Hmmmm.... I need a free copy of Office 2007... Where is the line?
-
-
I will have to look.

Thanks. BTW, whatd ya kill in your avatar pic?

I think they may be responsible for some of the crop circles down there too. -

TB, if your serious about office, why not DL the 2010 Beta. It is free until October and my whole company has been using it for over 2 months w/o a single issue so far. It is as big of a leap from Office 07 that windows 7 was to windows xp imo.

I just want to get my touchscreen working!

I know that this is never an issue with desktops or non-rugged laptops, shame to say the best hardware in the world has the lousiest driver support from its manufacturer that the world has ever seen
