    I've just got a really good deal on a brand new CF-30 mk2 (CF-30FTSAZAM, 1.6/800/4MB L7500 + 1000 nit touchscreen + 80GB disk + no options + no WWAN + Vista).

I know that other laptops with the L7500 processor can accommodate 8GB of RAM. My needs are fairly demanding - can the CF-30 mk2 also use 8GB of memory?

You're right - it looks like there's a 4GB limitation in the chipset.

The mk3 on the other hand, should support 8GB without any issues.

I'm just going by the Intel data-sheets for the corresponding chipsets.

The mk2 has the GM965 Express chipset, which is limited to 4GB. link

The mk3 has the GS45 Express chipset, which will support up to 8GB. link

    and, what OS?

Unless it is a x64 Operating System it will never use all of that RAM. A 32bit system is going to be limited to around 3.5GB...

You can make a sweet RAM drive with some available software. Claims are they can letter drive the excess memory through "patented technology" what a 32bit OS cant.
