I have a person that want to sell me a couple of toughtbook CF-30FQL55AM. I have looked up the model numbers and I can find everything except the L and the first 5. Any idea what these mean ( i really am not too worried about the L as I am going to change the hard drive out anyway, but what does that first 5 mean)

The first 5 designates the 'Integrated Options' like Bluetooth, GPS, SmartCard, etc. This is what the units you are looking at came configured from the factory:

    Model Number : CF-30FQL55AM
    Status : DISCONTINUED
    MSRP : $5,365
Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 1.60GHz (Centrino), 13.3" XGA Touch, 80GB, 2GB(1+1), Intel 802.11a/b/g, TPM1.2, Bluetooth, Cingular HSDPA 3.6, Dual Pass (Upper:WWAN/Lower:WLAN), Combo Drive, AT&T Special BIOS, D-ring & Strap, AT&T Logo Badge

You might want to do some investigation into what the 'AT7T Special BIOS' is all about. HTH.

Thanks, I was wondering what was included with this laptop, hoping for gps but I guess I can add that myself. what is the best thing to do with the wwan card, I do not need them, would that be something that someone on hear could use, I might want to trade them for a working gps kit.

You will find it very hard to trade it for a GPS since that is the #1 upgrade everyone wants to have. The wwan card is not really worth a lot really.

    Hello...Hello.....Hello...Hellooooo......

We have all fallen into the Toughbook abyss....I can tell by the echo..echo..echo....

ATT bios is no big deal...My first CF30 was that same model....I never found anything different about it...

I have a backup copy of that bios here somewhere...

By the way....You have to be fast to beat the search ninja..

yeah I like the idea that I can drop this thing off of a rack and not mess it up, I have busted a couple of laptops before working in data centers (they were old laptops so not out much, this is what I do with recycled laptops). I will have to get with him and see what he wants for them. I have the chance to buy a cf-19K model from another customer, no hard drive but looking on sleezebay I have found a few and they are not too expensive for either unit.

ok just got an update form the cf-30 customer, he cannot read apparently, the model number was cf-30fasezam, mk2 not mk3 but I can still use it. I looks like it will only do 4gb ram but as I am going to be running linux should be ok. with this model run 64-bit linux? Also talked to the cf-19 customer, he is "thinking" about how much he want for the unit, it is a cf-19khrax2m, my luck he will go to ebay and see something selling for $500 to $1000 and expect that kinda money for this, well we will see.

sorry for all the quick posts but I am not familiar with the toughbooks, I have worked in IT for over 35 years just not with these kinda laptops. I see the 19 can come with webcam, is this something that can be added by mee, would be convenient for taking pictures of racks, unit information, etc. for inventory purposes.

Short answer is no you can't add a original cam to it...The camera models are hard to come by..

Just talked to the customer earlier in the evening and got the cf-19 mk3 for $100 and the cf-30 mk2 for $75 so I figure I am ahead of the game. I can add GPS to both of these eventually. So now I am also a tough book person. We will see if these can stand up to the abuse that I usually put my old laptops through, they usually do not last long, about a month or so. Thanks for all the help and advise I really nap predicate it and I will definitely be back to ask more questions in the future.

Should have no problem with them two. I have a few of them two plus Intel and Samsung. Your boot up time will be cut in half.

Best to install the SSD unformatted and do a clean Win7 install, that way Win7 will recognize the SSD and make all the proper changes.

I am installing linux on both of these no Windoze. If they work like all my other systems then I can handle the install, setup and tuning, I have done literally hundreds of linux installs
