CF-31 Boot from USB HDD or Flash Drive?

Anyone have any luck with this? I have tried USB HDD, USB Optical and USB Optical Drive options in the booting order of the BIOS. None work with either my IDE HDD on a USB Adapter Cable, or a bootable Flashdrive that I have set up to boot from DOS?

Any ideas?

 

On the exit page of bios there is a boot override option. You can select your external boot device there. The device must be in the boot order for it to show up in the boot override option

 

USB HDD is the one the boots usb sticks.

Bios might not boot from an IDE device.

 

Hey Azrial...good to hear from you. If bios boot override doesn't show it it's probably as Shawn said.

Can you copy IDE to a different (SATA) drive? Is the flash drive formatted NTFS or ????

Try one of the back USB ports. The 3.0 is dead until the o.s. boots.

The back two should be alive enough for DOS to see them.

Trying to set up a HDD for an old 486DX Desktop DOS Computer. I never did find a old slow computer for programming and found this one in my own basement. Not a notebook, but, well, any port in a storm and all...

Anyway, I have it up and running and was trying to get it to work with an ISA network card and old Optical Drive, and... the 1994 HDD failed!!! Damn! Nothing is built to last now-a-days!!!

Anyway, I am trying to hoodoo a later drive into working, and I need 2GB per partition, and a max of 8GB. I have been trying to build the image for this HDD.

I did get the Flashdrive to boot on DOS! I had to turn off "fast-boot" and run the boot as "Compatible." That did the trick!

Good to talk to you guys again!! I could still use a CF-25 with a P100 in it as well...

On the original topic, it is quite a hoot to see this i5 CF-31 running DOSSHELL in DOS 7.1!
