gothed - your note jibes with the frustrating exercise that I experienced trying to order the confit I was looking for. The exclusions are as you've described. Not sure why Panasonic chose the packages they did, but if a webcam and the dual pass through antenna is important, you have to give up the fingerprint scanner and FireWire. I'll post more as soon as my platform shows up.

GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY! Thanks!

#6 also involves the OS. 1 = W7, 2 = XP with W7 COA. Since all XP machines are now "channel limited" it's kinda moot.
edit:
In #4 a 7 shows up on a 540 if you add smart card and print readers, which also forces the dual pass throughs. It also shows up in this 520: CF-31ATA7M1M. Weird. -
XP machines are still done - Microsoft allow Panasonic and other OEMs to sell machines with an XP image on directly to customers who are expected to order more then 25 units a year.
-
As the old models are sold out XP will disappear on the Toughbooks ,other than special situations for some cf-52's and cf-74's as reported by a Panasonic insider on Toughbooktalk
Here's a quote from that post
Note that for the time being Panasonic seems to have XP drivers available ,so if you provide the O/S ,you can get the drivers
Time will tell, we will see what happens when the cf-31 mk-2 comes out -
That may well be true, but only for Panasonic US (assuming that's where the Panasonic guy was from on toughbooktalk.com).
This is not the case for buying Toughbooks in Europe, and the situation may well be different in Canada, Japan etc etc.
Panasonic in Europe are able to ship with XP downgrade installed if you order directly and are ordering more then 25 units a year. -
OK, edit added
