I was going to post this about 3 hours ago, but I got caught up reading a few other posts.
I have a CF-31 I am going to outfit with one of the new aftermarket UBLOX GPS kits. I want this unit to be able to track me in areas that may not have a good wireless signal. Thus, I need something like MS Streets & Trips for software. I need software that is downloadable to the laptop and does not require an internet connection like google maps does.
Since I am late to the game, I see that MS has discontinued S&T as of earlier in 2015. They now want you to use Bing maps. Does anyone have a substitute GPS mapping program they use that they can suggest? It has to be a complete install with no internet connection needed after install.
I know this is marginally not toughbook related, but you guys are always a wealth of knowledge.
Thanks, Blade

Roads don't change that much.
Use a 2014 or 2015 version of S&TUNCNDL1 likes this. -
I don't have S&T. And apparently it's not available from MS anymore.

X 2 on Streets and Trips. If you won't have cell service you might want to pick up Delorme TOPO North America as well. You way don't need the latest version, the USGS does not update their maps that often. I'm using 7 which works with Win 7. There are not a lot available on ebay at the moment but look around you should be able to get a copy for a reasonable price. Delorme says 7.0 won't run on Windows 7. They are lying and you don't need compatibility mode. I'm not suggesting you don't use S & T just add TOPO. Send me a PM

I'm using iGo for road navigation. It's not free, but easy to find for free
)
Maps are being updated very often. Offline, very stable software.
Offroad navigation - SAS.Planet (free software), OziExplorer (easy to find keys). -
I would also be interested in any insight y'all have about this. I've had a few customers ask me to recommend GPS software, especially free/affordable options, and I would like to have a bit more knowledge on the subject. Is there anything beyond road map stuff out there? I've had some people ask about global positioning for off-roading, drone navigation, geological surveying, etc.
BaRRmaley: I just saw your post. I will look into those. -
CWB32 (Larry) just did a bunch of research on free GPS software. He uses it in an airplane so that's about as off road as you can get...
This is what is is trying.. http://www.mapsphere.com/

awesome info!
I'm checking all of it out. I like the idea of mapshere being supported currently if MS S&T gets too far out of date.
I am heading out of range Thursday night. No cell, no power. -
