Hi all, I purchased a GPS assembly from Heartland for my CF-31JLGAX1M. I installed the module correctly, the ribbon cable into the proper connector, and booted up to Win 7 64bit. I checked the BIOS and the GPS shows there. I left it in the "Auto" setting. I installed the GPS viewer and GPS registry patch. In GPS viewer, the GPS is not found on ANY port. I polled all ports at 4800 baud and 9600 baud. Normally, with the CF-30, the GPS is on COM3, but COM3 is being listed as "open failed" when polled through GPS Viewer. I downloaded Ublox Ucenter to try to pull signal and COM3 was not even a port option. I noticed in device manager Intel Active Management Technology on COM3. When i disable this Intel Active MAnagement Technology, COM3 becomes available in Ublox Ucenter, but still no response on 4800 or 9600. What am i missing here????

An original gps is not a Ublox
    Is flat cable upside down?

The CF-31MK5 uses a U-blox M8N now. They have learned a lesson from us, lol...

Anyway, set the bios into default setting. Are you sure you connected the gps into the right connector?

Yes, the connector is connected to the correct slot. If it weren't, I dont think the GPS option would show in the BIOS. I have unplugged the connector, and GPS then doesnt show in BIOS, so I know its correct. I have even re-assigned the Intel Active Management item to COM4. Com3 then becomes available and still nothing. I even swapped out the GPS for another GPS (both original Panasonic) and still no dice. I am thinking of do a factory recovery. Just purchased discs from Heartland for the MK2 64bit W7. Im thinking something software wise is to blame since I have ruled out all the hardware sources.

I know the original is not Ublox but their software works with all makes GPS engines. Ive used Ublox Ucenter for CF-30s with both the LEadtek and Sony and it works great!

Before we go further, I will ask if nobody or somebody tried a DIY to instal a gps on the system or maybe an OEM from other unit but not from CF-31. Also, you haven't mention that you've followed my instruction to set the bios into default setting. Do it first and see.

I ask coz not all ribbon cable are the right fit on the system eventhough they have the same 12 pin and pitch. Its the orientation on the connector. Instead of a line goes to supply it goes to ground line thats when the protected fuse will blown out. It means a reverse. Even if the fuse blown out and you install the right cable of an OEM gps. The GPS will still appear on the bios setting but it will not function(kapot).

Its no matter for me even if it is Ublox, leadtek, Sorry( I mean Sony) and etc. Even from the old system like on 29, 18 and CF-30 GPS, i can fit it in on CF-31 and it will works fine. As I said its the the orientation of the GPS connector.

    Teo,
    In his first post...
AMReid....Did that setup come with instructions? Would you scan them and send them to me? You could probably post them here instead...I would like to add them to my documents collection...

    hmmm ...
in reference to what was mentioned ...
before going any further , i would strongly suggest checking for the presence of +5VDC at the connector .
