I've been fiddling with my Wifi adapter, because I was getting might tired of needing to hard reset the adapter (using the left hand side switch) every time I resume from suspend or hibernation. :vbmad:

Just tried a Centrino 6235, which was plug and play in terms of wifi, all up and running immediately. (Didn't even have to change the driver that was already installed.) Except one small thing... my bluetooth is gone. I know that BT is fully functional on this card, but I appear to be unable to find a driver that supports it. Strange. Tried the usual suspects, including BT stack for Mk2 W7 x64, Mk3 Win 8, intel drivers etc.

Anybody knows if this is upgradable? My Centrino 6205 ran fine with Intel drivers, except for the annoyance mentioned in the first paragraph. And no, changing the adapter still didn't fix the problem original problem with suspend/resume. But I would like to hear if anybody has changed to a 6235 or higher.

I'm running a CF-31 Mk2 on Windows 10. Why you might ask? Well, windows 7 is getting a bit long in the tooth, and Windows 8 is awful, windows 10 performs fairly well if you disregard the laughably poor and inconsistent UI.

Ahhh... sweet relief... I was wrong. :)
The upgrade *did* finally fix the issue with the Wifi adapter needing hard reset every single time the machine resumes.

So now I just need to get my bluetooth back I use it a lot.....

So.... I'm beginning to understand that the CF-31 does not use an integrated Bluetooth module, but relies on a separate board and a Toshiba (?) chipset and driver. Is this correct?
I reinstalled the Centrino 6205 board, and have wifi working again. However, I still can't detect my bluetooth.

There seems to be no way to get Windows to see the bluetooth anymore.... strange...

Yes the CF31 uses a dedicated Bluetooth board.
I had an Intel 6205 in my mk2. I just swapped it out as in an hour ago, for an Intel 6300 with a custom third antenna.
The bluetooth board is right above the wifi card. You had to remove the Bluetooth to change the wifi.
I do have an extra bluetooth board for a CF31

Power pull reset a computer any time cards are changed. (pull battery and power cable, hold switch on for a while)

Then [F2] to bios and set to defaults. (check if bios sees bluetooth)(in a sub-menu?)

Bluetooth may be set to disabled by default by bios or Windows, so check it in bios. Some OS set volume off by default for instance.

What does it say in device manager re: Bluetooth.

Is there a pcb up and to the right of Pause/Break under the keyboard bezel? (BT Antenna)

Shawn and I were typing at the same time. Again. :D

    Thanks!
Yes, I stupidly thought at first it was just some kind of antenna interface board for WAN, but realized later that it was a dedicated bluetooth board. Unless I hosed the board when I swapped the wifi, it is probably a driver issue. Note that when I had the 6235 in there it should in theory have detected two BT radios.... but it didn't detect a single one... Therefore I think it is a driver...

It is a Toshiba chipset or something else?

I have a feeling that the challenge is to get the board detected, and then everything will work. Part of the challenge might be that the OS has been upgraded from 8.1 to 10 after the driver was installed. It worked before, so I guess I could always go back to a restore point. But then my wifi will probably disappear after every resume like it used to...

Messing around with the card and driver has finally made the wifi behave properly during resume!!

If no bluetooth in device manager than I'm guessing it's not plugged in. :) (correctly)

    BIOS:
On MK II, bluetooth is in wireless configuration sub-menu. If it's not there then it's unplugged. Or at least that's what it is on my JEGAX1M.

    Wireless Switch Utility?

Hmm.... Need to take it out and take a look. Only one flex cable on this board. I might give it a push and see what happens.

No dice. But if the BT board is damaged, I should still have seen one BT bus when I had the 6235 board connected. But I didn't.

I am wondering if some misconfigured drivers is hogging the thing...

BIOS is turned on. I tried to turn off and on just to give it a kick.
    Switch utility is turned on.

Show hidden devices in Device Manager will show all known bluetooth devices grayed out.Generic bluetooth adapter is grayed out.

You are not alone on the BT not working after the W10 down grade. This is just one of the many issues W10 users are having.

Windows 10 has been quite good for me, and a bit faster than 7. BT was working earlier today, but I've been screwing around until I broke it. Of course.

I will guess that you did not get the white FFC fully seated on the BT board.
I would uninstall everything BT related and reinstall the factory BT driver package

    Checked the flex, seems ok...
BT should show up as a USB devices, I believe?

But why could I not see the Intel BT adapter earlier if it is hardware related?

I have uninstalled everything, but not sure what is the best factory BT driver.... is it a Toshiba driver for the Mk2? That seems to be what I get from the Panasonic support site?

What I would do is try a Linux LiveCD to verify the "lack" of hardware. But that is me.
Again from CF-31. Note second section......Bluetooth is a USB device. Brand and ID number there too.

(USB Conflict?) If nothing shows in dmesg or lsusb then it's broken. (EDIT)

Did it surprise you when the touchpad didn't work, or do you use a USB mouse? MK2 has the Interlink PS/2 Touch Pad.....one line fix is available at Toughbooktalk.com....Linux and General Forums.

You could TRY pulling the SD? and any other USB devices, but I think it's (bluetooth) disconnected. May I assume dmesg showed nothing? As I understand it, dmesg is the session log. Machine looks for hardware, then writes the log each and every time it builds a session.

    So, progress. :)

Hehe... I just about noticed the touchpad vanishing before I hit ALT-CTRL-F2 and got a nice clean terminal.

I can no longer detect the BT USB module, and I can isolate the problem to the connecting board, the flex cable or the BT board itself, since the GOBI works fine, running offf the same USB host controller, connected to the same connecting board. I just ohmed through the flex cable and this is fine, which leaves me with a hunch that the BT board has been smoked somehow. It could of course be the flex connectors in either end, or the breakout/connecting board.

    Very, very strange...

dmesg does not contain much of interest. I don't think the AHCI conflict should be an issue for bluetooth.

Is BT enabled in the BIOS?

Yes. Just to be sure I disabled it, rebooted and reenabled it.

Connector or card is probably bad. Very odd.
Did you go ahead and pull the CMOS battery, main battery, disconnect from AC and hold power button for 20 to 30 seconds?

Let me see if I have a BIOS flash for that. You could try a flash as a last resort before trying a different BT card. Like I said, I know I have a card.

dmesg | grep Bluetooth #is what I meant. hehehe

You have the cable right side up?

Disclaimer: If the bluetooth is not visible in bios then all this Linux Speak is unnecessary but Linux sees your card. ???

Next time that you load Linux on Mr. 31MK2 place "i8042.notimeout i8042nomux" in front of "quiet" in grub menu and your touchpad will work. There is a one-liner for an installed version of Linux but in this scenario I assume you are using a LiveCD. (stick)

One liner for installed Linux. (Writes psmouse.conf file. Requires re-boot)
sudo echo "options psmouse proto=imps" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf >/dev/null

The difference between your lsusb and mine is the dongle and flash drive. You are running the same bios. FYI EDIT2

Devil is in the details, that's why I included more of the log. I was entertaining a hypothesis that some conflict (IRQ or other) completely blacked out the BT hardware or its associated USB controller. This appears not to be the case as far as I can see.

Linux doesn't see the card. The Bluetooth references are just a generic software stack

The cable should be correct. The uninsulated conductors are facing towards the PCB, or away from the plastic clamp that pushes the cable in place. I did measure through the cable, it seems to be ok.

I did remove the bottom and unplugged CMOS battery, together with main battery and AC power. The BIOS settings are still the same, however, with exception of the real time clock which was zeroed.

I did run a BIOS diagnostics, and the Bluetooth is the only device that marks as fail. I am therefore officially giving up and concluding that I must in some unknown way have damaged the BT board when replacing the WIFI adapter. This explanation still doesn't explain why the 6235 BT interface never showed up, but I think life is too short to speculate... If you have a BT board to sell me, send me a PM, I'll be happy to take it off your hands.

Shawn and Sadlmkr, thank you very much for all your help!

What I was getting at without saying is that a add on USB device was conflicting with bluetooth.

    You're welcome,

    J'd
