Well, got the memory upraded, now the new DVD/RW (OEM) I installed this AM won't read any discs. It shows up in DM and My Computer, but when I insert a disc and double click on the drive, it ejects the disc and says insert another disc. It won't even read the driver disc that came with it. On another note, I've got a USB HDD plugged in that shows up in DM, but not in My Computer! Anyone want a new CF-31....cheap!?! LOL

because of the dvd: check if the slider of the laser is movable and the lens is clean. did u hear the disc rotating and the slider jumping?
because of the hdd: check in the management, if the partition is active and formated (if the hdd is new). also check the events (system, application)
because of the cf-31: how much? :)

Question for the smart guys: Can the order in which drivers want to be installed be critical enough to require a scorched earth policy on oem hardware upgrades?

Wow! Thanks for the input! I'm not new to building/diassembling computers/laptops, but I am far from "knowing it all". After inserting a disc, the DVDRW lights up for a minute, then "goes dead"; won't read anything I feed it. I check for a firmware update, and apparently this drive is updated. I solved my issue temporarily by buying an external DVDRW, and the CF-31 boots from that just fine. This drive is for the CF-31, and is brand speanking new from Panny. Well at this point I have over $3400 in this thing, so I'll exhaust all avenues to get her the way I want. I'll be posting a loaded 80 hour mint CF-30 soon, though....thanks again for your help !!!

If your having trouble with the dvd drive, I would just send it to for a rma since it is still in warranty. Heartland is very fast at repairs. and since its in warranty, they will pay for shipping both ways and even send you a box to ship it in.

Think I'll do that, this drive should be PnP on Windows 7. Thanks!
