    Hi guys,

I just bought a (new to me) cf31 mk1. CF-31AEA7J2M and installed a 240GB SSD, Win7 64, and the toughbook driver suite for a CF31 mk1 from the Panasonic toughbook website. I checked for a wifi icon in the tray and get nothing. I checked the bios and all the wireless options show enabled. The "on/off" switch by the SD card slot, under the cover marked "wireless" and "MP" and "SDHC" is switched on. I even went back to the Toughbook website and searched for CF31 mk1 wireless adapters, wwan, wifi, and related, and installed whatever I found there (two WLAN drivers I think were all that looked plausible. Any ideas? I have to have wifi for my application(s) to run and update. Seller (CNS?) specifically stated that the laptop is wifi equipped. I have other computers I can load stuff onto USB and install from, but am out of ideas.

Like I said - I don't have so much as a wifi tray icon...

Welcome to the Panasonic Toughbook forum

Have you checked Device Manager to see if it shows up. My bet the drivers are not installed. Look in your "C" drive, util folder / drivers / wlan. They should be a autorun. Double click on it and install.

Ok it looks like I am just getting to excited and am forgetting the basics. I downloaded the cf 31 mk2 driver bundle from Panasonics web site. Its an exe and when I open it I get it to extract but nothing changes in the device manager. Is there a trick or is it better to install drivers one at a time?

Ok I think I have it about figured out now. They run as admin fixed the drivers not loading. The touchscreen isnt working so I am going to go into the bios and make sure its enabled.

First thing I did was install avast free virus software, is it worth a dang? I have it on my other two toughbooks and have never had an issue but I will be using this one a lot more online compared to the 29 and 30.

I am really blown away at the speed of the 31 its very quick from the little I have done with it. Its a great improvement over the 30 and I liked the 30 a lot. I can see wanting to get a back light keyboard in the future. How hard are they to install and are they worth it?

Just want to thank everyone for the guidance getting this new to me lappy up and running.

Avast is very good. "Set it and forget it" I would install it on any machine I am selling or repairing.

For my own workhorse CF 52, I am going to use Kaspersky. I bought 6 months for 3 pcs to try it out. Kaspersky seems to ask a few more questions and it gives me few more options. It seems better for a more tech advanced. I have a bunch of BIOS and odd utilities that sets Avast off. In Kaspersky I can chose to ignore the virus//malware//what the heck is this warnings on an individual basis.
Avast goes with these options: Avast delete now//I delete now//or ignore forever.
I really want the added option of ignore this time only. Kaspersky gives me that.
