Win 7 (32 bit) index on CF-31AGP7B2M
With intel graphics:
Processor 6.5
ram 7.2 (2+2 config)
graphics 4.3
gaming graphics 5.2
HDD 7.6 (intel SSD)
With ATI graphics:
Processor 6.5
ram 5.5 (sharing is caring?)
graphics 5.4
gaming graphics 6.4
HDD 7.6
Notes: Fresh Win 7 from supplied recovery disk. No tweaks applied. Installed carrier switching app set to ATT, Revo uninstaller, Garmin PC trial, and Security Essentials. Mogo mouse connected. First two attempts with ATI, BIOS set to "performance video," resulted in BSOD. Set BIOS to "power saving video" and ran the index on the intel graphics successfully on the first attempt. Then set BIOS to "switchable." It booted into ATI and the index ran first try. Tried again with the setting on performance and again BSOD. What the heck that's about, I have no idea.

Looking at the results I see that the processor is very powerful ,those are good results
My gaming netbook beats you in only 2 tests
graphics 6.5 and gaming graphics 6.5
Is there a hotkey combination within windows that switches the graphics from normal to high performance
On my AW there is , and it changes from the on-board intel to the graphics card
Usualy bsod issues could be related to graphic card drivers, check for updates -
In 7 there is an icon in the notification area that controls power settings. Video switching lives in that. Windows reports no ATI driver update available. Haven't asked the ATI site directly yet.
Also, the fast boot option in bios eliminates the blue panny screen so you have to hold down F2 on power-up to enter bios. It also prevents usb devices from working before the OS loads. Good for about 10 seconds. Enabling switchable graphics adds the 10 back.
In 7 the intel wifi app can connect to ATT via the GOBI. In XP it never offered to.
Edit: Did you say your NETBOOK beats it? Blow me. (Old Atari terminology, as a tech savvy guy like you would surely know)

Only in 2 tests lol
Your results with mine in bold
Note that your processer blows mine out of the water (old boating terminology)
Processor 6.5 - 4.6
ram 5.5 - 5.4
graphics 5.4 - 6.5
gaming graphics 6.4- 6.5
HDD 7.6 - 5.9 -

whats a gaming netbook? they call those laptops
-
Well, I think of the 11" screen M11x as a netbook
I am used to the heavy full sized Toughbooks though
A bit larger than my cf-19 , I hate the lousy touchpad on it ,again I am used to the toughbook touchpad
It sits on counter to play back internet tv using the hdmi output to my flat screen tvAttached Files:

M11x is like a 11.6 screen but still I would love to have one. Looks like it's on sale too.

OK, I feel a little better. I had an Acer netbook. It suffered hazardous location damage when it got too close to my knee. It rattles a bit now, and there is a slight bulge in the middle of the keyboard. Gave it to the youngest and he loaded some cloud os on it. It seems happier now. I know I am.

You DO realize you just stuck a knife in Rick's heart showing that DULL laptop in a photo RIGHT NEXT TO a ToughBook; EVEN IF it only was to show how cheesy it is in comparison...

Sooooo... What is the ultimate off the shelf gaming laptop? Putting biases aside and looking only at performance, reliability, and stability. Thinking ahead to the 4.0 my p.a.b. kid will be earning next term, under the whip (AKA mom). He got within a razor this time, but gaffed off some stupid study lab. What he wants is something in this:
DD - Water Box Plus
But I want to give him an option. -
Well... that sure is a nifty box... give it a month.
I built my computer in one of those clear lexan boxes a few years back; it was fabulous for about 2 weeks. Then the dust started to accumulate; by the end of the month it looked like it had mold growing everywhere.
Spew and a half.
Believe me, you DON'T want a computer where EVERYTHING is visible; the manufacturers never implement filtration very well, and you ALWAYS wind up with ugly accumulations somewhere.
A good, Antec aluminum box is the ticket; you can hide a multitude of sins in there. They have shapes and sizes to match ANY budget and ANY size/shape you could desire.

My main rig right now has a Xeon E5640, 12GB of ram, and the GTX460, with two 15K scsi drives in hardware raid 0.
1. No laptop will have that processor and video card, and certainly not so much ram.
2. The hard disks are faster (write speed) then most ssds, and they don't slow down when they get full.
So I am afraid there is nothing you can do, a laptop simply doesn't replace a desktop. -
I dunno, my 31 can make tea. Can your rig do that? Hmmm...?
-
EDIT: BTW that is ECC ram, I don't even think they make that for laptops (the aforementioned PC is not a gaming rig) -
No speed freak gamer is going to use ECC ram, it might slow something down by a nano second or so.

Actually, it's a sheep.
edit: re-ran the index with shared graphics enabled and graphics set to intel. the ram score stayed at 5.5 and the graphics score popped up a tenth to 4.4. Then I set set bios to power saving and reran. The memory score went back to 7.2 and the graphics score dropped back to 4.3. I'm almost certain it just pulled those numbers out of a log. The test was over in a second or two.
edit edit: With bios set to power saving video mode, power saving option in the os set to balanced, screen at medium brightness, wind s sw at 7 knots, system idling, battery meter is reporting 14 hours remaining with a full charge. -

Found the re-run the assessment button (I'm kinda slow witted).
Intel graphics with that stupid aero crap turned off:
cpu: 6.6
mem: 7.2
vid: 4.5
game vid: 5.2
HDD: 7.6 -
I have not noticed decreased productivity on my CF31 compared to this beast though, just longer load times.
Tonight I will try to design a PCB board at home on the CF31, on a 1600x1200 display, we will see if I run in any problems there.
I have not tried Solid Works yet, I assume it will choke on that.
cheers
