    Ok, got my batch of (two Atheros and two maxwell) wireless cards and antennas. Ready to do install on a 48 first, then the 72 and finally the 28. Easier to work on the 48 as the slot is not under the battery or hd like in the 28.
    Inserted the card plus drivers and hooked up the antennas to test the system. Works great, now I just have to figure out where the original antennas for the 48 that I purchased go :confused:
    Does anybody have an idea? I could not locate on the schematic diagrams etc on the CF-48 service manual. I am going to take apart the 48 for the first time. Here is a picture of what they look like -

    It might be easier if you could resize the picture so we could see all of it on one screen without having to arrow back and forth.

    Hi,
    Pull the palm rest off and one goes in the lower right hand corner and the other goes on the left side, in the middle between battery bay and PMCIA slot. Have Fun !!

    Took the whole damn thing apart (cf-48). Removed the maim PCB and ran the antenna wires like so to the mini pci card. Gonna install it back into base unit and then figure out where to afix the antennas.

    hi;
    here are the locations, they require little mounting brackets, if you don't have them then a little fab'ing is in order, just have to secure them they are very forgiving.( my additions to your pic are a little crude sorry )

    Keeper, You kidding me, that’s not crude at all. I used one of those text bubbles in my profile pic – it’s a dig at Halliburton (Cheney) though the case manufacturer is actually Zero Halliburton. Anyway, I tried to figure out locations for the antennas based on the length of the wires and the layout. At first, I ran the wires straight down the channel between the battery enclosure and the HD enclosure and stuck one in a plastic cavity to the left of the two LEDs and the antenna with the longer wire to one of the two larger plastic cavities to the right of the LEDs. Put everything back together and it worked great. The only problem was the antenna to the left of the LEDs was preventing the top cover from sitting flush or flat so I installed it pretty much where you indicated – to the left of the battery compartment, but without the mounting bracket. Mind you, both locations are covered by the tin like metal covers and both antennas are not screwed down or grounded to anything. In fact, they are smack against these metal shields but still seem to work fine. I ran speed tests and both downloads and uploads are great! Even the signal strength has all the bars green. This is with windows, not even with the Atheros utility which I suppose will allow it to run in super G mode. My wireless router is a Belkin MIMO pre N and I get a 108 Mbps connection with a mimo pcmcia card. So, I will try the Atheros utility later because the first time I tried it, it did not allow me to type in the key for the security, almost as if my keyboard was disabled – weird!
    I will checkout the range later as I don’t want to step out into the cold. lol But right now, as things stand, I am very pleased with the performance. Thank you for the guidance/help.
    Next is the CF-72 with new hinges and with another Atheros card and those flag antennas – have two kinds, one stiff (Hitachi) and one flexible (Tyco). Will post pics – how does one attach in the form of thumbnails, like you have? I have been uploading to Photobucket and linking from there.
    TB, I am taking smaller pics now so one does not have to arrow back and forth on the screen.
    Stay warm! :)

    Went to my neighbor's garage and tested it today. Even with two bars on the signal strength it played a utube video in normal and HQ mode without any problems. Got equally high download and upload speeds on speakeasy from the garage which is a good 50 feet away from my house. I am very happy with the performance of this card and antennas.
