My notebook crashed and my recovery disc is scratched to hell and back so I installed win98se from an old disc I had. Now I cant find any device drivers for win98. All I can find is stuff for XP or win2000.

Does anyone here have a link to any drivers or is it possible to email them to me....getting desperate....lol

    All help appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Go here.

    http://modly.net/CF-28/

Please, don't be a bandwidth hog. Download only what you can use; Entries with Mk1 in the label are for 600mhz model; Mk2 are for 800mhz model, Mk3 are for 1000mhz.

When you find what you need, please come back & let us know how it worked out; and a shout out (and rep even) to Modly for providing drivers would be the decent thing to do.

    Cheers, and good luck!

Awesome! Even though my model CF-48 wasnt listed, most drivers worked.95% there, just 2 things left.
Tried the sound driver from that site and it seemed to install ok but still no sound, yellow exclamation through the device in device manager.
Also have an unknown device showing which I am assuming is some kind of wave device for the modem. Only reason I think this is because of the sound not installing correctly. Could be way off....

What sound device is shown on your CF48, perhaps I can search for it elsewhere....shame the XP drivers dont tell you what device it actually is.

One of the sites I found, again only seems to list drivers for XP or win2000.

On the home straight now guys...thanks!

The sound device is showing up as an intel(r) AC'97 Audio Controller - Sigma Tel codec.

I dont know if this is the correct hardware or if its just because the driver I tried installing was for this hardware.
Still have the yellow exclamation mark in device manager.

Any thoughts? would be really good to get this sorted.
    TIA.

hi, my cf48x uses the ac97 driver as well and that is the one called for on yours(cf48s) i would try to reload the driver and reboot- if not working download the ess sound driver for a mark 2 unit (search cf48 with no letters behind it). your other ? could be you hotkey driver not loaded. if you push and hold the Fn key and tap the F1 key your display should dim or F2 display should brighten-good luck

OK, uninstalled drivers and removed the devices.
Downloaded the ESS drivers and tried that. Didnt work, was told it was not the correct driver. Tried anyway...removed again

On startup, windows asks me for the AC'97 WDM Sigma Tel driver disc. Have tried various drivers from driverguide...still no worky!

48User, any chance you can mail me the 3 files from your system? stac97 cat,inf and sys

Function keys are working...still hoping unknown device is a wave device for the modem.

    Thanks.

Hey, Ive just checked my win98 install cd and see its not win98SE! would this make a difference to the drivers? Thought it was SE.....

Have a copy of SE here somewhere......

Yeah, SE really is the one with the big driver package, and full USB support. The first release (as with most M$ products) was a premature facelift version of the previous version just so they could say they released on time; it didn't work very well (remembers WinME with the SAME disdain).

Well, it would appear that Win98SE was indeed required! After a clean install, the sound drivers went in and are working as is everything else!
Not sure why the drivers wouldnt work under Win98 but hey ho...working now.

Thanks to 48user for the link for the drivers...would still be without a notebook without them, and to mnementh for replying!

Am happy now...off to update, shutdown and sleep!

    Thankyou.
