    CF-50 ATI help!

    (please excuse my bad english. Norwegian is my native but imma try my best. also i dont want to type norwegian)
    Recently picked up a CF-50 with the ATI card installed and the Winternals ERD Commander 2005 installation is fine but I would like windows xp pro. I have never used that before however i did get this from telecom. The 50 works but i need a new os from it

    Well I had to look that one up, . Never heard of it till now...
    Winternals' ERD Commander 2005 - it creates a bootable CD you can use to recover from registry failure and a lot more by the sound of it .... very interesting. Anyways do you have a windows sticker on the bottom of the CF-50 ?

    if it has a XP COA on the bottom, just get a cheap Dell XP restore disk and use it.
    When it asks for a serial, use the one from the COA sticker.

    Depending on your model you should have ATI 7500, 9000 or 9600. Then some of these are in 32 or 64 mb flavors.

    CF-50W/Y (Mk1) -- ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 32MB or 64MB VRAM

    CF-50A/B/X (Mk2) -- ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, 32MB or 64MB VRAM

    CF-50D/E/F/G/H (Mk3) -- ATI 9000, 32MB or 64MB VRAM

    CF-50L/M (Mk4) -- ATI 9600, 64MB VRAM

    CF-50J/K (Mk5) -- ATI 9000, 64MB VRAM

    I have had a few of these and liked them, the cd/dvd drive and having a floppy drive came in handy at times.

    I would make sure I maxed out RAM with XP.

    I still have a copy of Commander as well and it works well for recovery from a cd drive.

    If you have a extra hard drive try some flavors of linux as well. Some newer kernals don't like the older hardware so make sure it's compatable.

    Funny thing is that at a “local” flea market there was a 50 MK4 maxed out and it did have Commander on it. Luckily for me I got it for like$45 with a combo CF-52GUN and CF-28M.
