I let it charge for 20 minutes then decided to check in windows xp under power options in the control panel, then selected power meter. And it says current power source ac power, total battery power remaining 0% then under that it's showing #1 above a battery that has a red X with 0% next to that.

I think this battery is shot. Cause when charging it should be blinking yellowish orange, correct?? Then solid green when done?? I don't know cause this is the first battery I bought for it.

I am guessing that it is shot. I had one that was red for like 5 minutes then went orange and has been ok. If it stayed red for 20 minutes, I would assume that it is DOA. After that period of time, it should have begun to charge at least a little bit.

The blue tab battery does not work on the CF-50 at least not on the P4 models. For these you need the yellow or green tab batteries. So you need either the CF-VZSU18AU (yellow tab) or the CF-VZSU18B (green tab).

Your first link shows the CF-VZSU18AU which is the yellow tab battery. I am telling you from my own experience so take it for what it's worth. But don't believe everything you read on the internet or on this site. The only way for you to know for sure is to try your blue tab battery on a cf-28.

I ran into this by accident I like you thought that all CF-VZSU18XX were interchangeable. But when i tried the blue tab on my CF-50 all I got was that blinking red light. I just happened to have a CF-28 and I tried it in it and lo and behold it charged perfectly. Ordered a green tab and it worked in both the CF-50 and the CF-28. The problem is most Ebay sellers are clueless they will reference the same sites that you did and say it will work based on what they see at these sites. This is also true for the blue tabs on the CF-72 they work just fine on the PIII's but no go on the P4. So just make sure you always ask the color of the tab when ordering a battery and you will be fine.

Thank you for all you help, this is so frustrating that people would rather just post something in their ad and have no clue cause someone else did it. I'll buy a yellow tab battery tomorrow. Thank you again....

Just make it simple and ask for the yellow tab battery but if the price is right I would go with the green tab they seem to last longer.

Just want to add to ensure they are OEM Panasonic not those generic ones from China

I am at work now, but when I get home I can verify some of tab situation on the C 50 P4's. I have various color tab batteries. Also I have p4 and and pentium M series C 50's. I know I have yellow tab for sure, and green or blue tab. My blue tab maybe for my Cf 29. I can't remember right now. I can tell you yellow tab's work on the Pentium M 1.7 because I am typing on it right now.

I ran into this on the cf-72's battery's, the newer models required the newer model battery's or the dreaded Red light error

There is no substitute for experience ,
thats why we all come on this forum and ask questions rather that relying on ebay sellers for information

I did not know about the issue on the cf-50 ,
    but I trust tough-2-go 's advice

Well I don't have a blue tab for the CF 50 but I have green tab and yellow tabs. They both work with the P4's and Pentium M's

I've got a p-4 cf-50 and the blue tab only shows the red and let it charge for a couple of hours.....no change. just popped the blue tab battery in a cf-50 with the pentium M and the light starts with yellow. Will let it charge for a while to let you know if it works. got the same info off ebay and took gamble the battery would work in the P-4. battery was 15.00 so thought battery was just bad. but no red light on the pentium M so far. who would have thought this? .....Driller
