I have two questions with my CF-50.

First I would like to increase the amount of RAM on my laptop. The system properties state 512 of RAM but when I look under the cover it states 256. Im very new to working on my laptop so why not learn. So which one is it, 512 or 256. I would like to add RAM because it is getting slower and slower. The toughbook has a Pentium 4 M CPU. Also were would I go to buy reputable computer parts. No ebay please. I live near Baltimore.

My second question is does anybody have any batteries for a CF-50. My battery has a yellow tab. I have tried the blue tab batteries and they did not work. The person who sold me the blue tab batteries promised they would work, but they did not. What is the difference with the batteries. They said it may be my computer that is broken and not the batteries. I don't really believe them. Thanks

The whole model number would help, but I will do my best without it. You have 256 ram soldered to the mainboard and a 256 sodimm in the expansion slot. That gives you 512 currently. If you put a 512 in it will give you 768 which should be plenty for win xp.
The battery is another story. I was recently down that very road. The CF 50 with the Pentium 4M acts different than with the Pentium M.
I bought a new aftermarket battery for one I was building with a Pentium 4M. The battery did not work in that machine nor it's twin that I had here.
It did work perfectly in my personal CF 50 with a Pentium M. Everyone lists the CF 50's as all being the same, but there is a problem with aftermarket batteries. I bought 2 used Panasonic batteries and they worked fine in any unit I had.
The CF vzsu18* (any tab color) batteries all have the same voltage and should work in any machine CF 28,CF 48 or CF 50. In my experience, at least with aftermarket batteries, I have found the CF50 Pentium 4M's to be picky.
Were your batteries OEM or aftermarket? Unfortunately Panasonic has not made the CF vzsu18* batteries for a long time. All of the used ones are getting tired and it's next to impossible to find a decent original Panasonic battery.
The battery I tried at first was made in China and I am still using it in my CF 50 Pentium M. There are a couple of made in the USA manufacturers that forum members have had good luck with. But the China battery cost $45.00 and the made is USA cost over $100.00.
I will dig around and find the link to the US company.

Here is the US battery link. I have never dealt with them and am not making any comment on their products. Other forum members have had very good experiences with their batteries. I am just relaying the link.

I will have to save up my pennies for a battery. But if it works I can't complain. Do you know a good place for RAM? Plus is there a real difference in quality when it comes to the parts I m looking for.
