I recently purchased a CF-51 at a good price that was advertised as a Core Duo (MK3)
that was actually a Pentium M 2.0 (MK2) but at least it is clean with a nice 1600X1200
display. It was also complete with a charger, good battery, and hard drive. I'm fairly
certain that I want a MK3LL with the built in Intel graphics for lower heat, longer
battery life, and less fan noise. My only graphics are 2D without motion and I'm
certain that the Intel graphics will be fine. My question is if I can swap the MK2 lid
with the higher res LCD onto a MK3LL with Intel graphics. Anyone tried it or have
a good idea one way or the other if it will work? I'll probably buy a MK3 or MK3LL
fairly soon and this will help decide between the two.
Thanks, Pete

I think this is not ((so easy)) possible, cause u need double LVDS for the higher resolution.
Edit: not 'double LVDS'; was meaning 'dual link LVDS Display Link' -
Check the cable connections at the motherboard. Have someone post photos if possible and compare the 2. I did this on a CF50. I don't know about a CF51. I had to swap the cables also.

Thanks everyone, it sounds like there is a good chance it will work and I'll just have
to try it. I might just play it safe and get a MK3, I'll see what comes up for sale.
I'm going to make this thread a general questions thread for this rebuild. So for now
this is a MK2 system with the intel 915PM chipset and ATI video. I did a fresh install
of XP SP3 and updated the drivers from various support sites. Everything seemed to
go fine on the OS reinstall and MS updates says there are no more updates required.
I went to copy a 190MB folder from the system to a USB stick and it went very slowly
and seemed to complete. Went to copy another large folder and it said the USB stick
was write protected. Seems something went wrong during one of the transfers and
the USB stick locked up. I had to back up all the data on the stick and run a factory
program to "reset" or was it rebuild it, then format it. I'm guessing that it is a driver
issue but I'm not finding any better drivers. The USB port driver is from 2004 which
seems old but might be OK. Any ideas? -

Thanks very much, that was exactly the sort of thing I was concerned about and it even covers the 945 chipset.

I think I tried this some time ago and if my pitiful memory is right there was a difference between the single core vs the core duo models wiring plug connectors. I don't think I tried to disassemble it any further to see if it would work. I wish I could be more specific. Hopefully I'm wrong and it will work, for what it's worth. Maybe some of the other guys may be more intune here..Driller

Thanks for your input. I found a MK3 at a very good price so there is no need to swap.
I might keep on looking for a MK3LL but for now the swap is not going to happen. I think
I can down clock the video in situations where I need low fan noise, maybe I'll try that. -

I'd appreciate any tips on how to remove the CF-51 display bezel, does it just
snap in, or are there screws also, perhaps under the small rubber nubs? -

They are 4 screws. Two at the top and two on the bottom. Do you have a service manual
