    Greetings,
As much as I like my CF-51 (CF-51QFDEEBM) I have a couple issues I could use a little help on.
I have not been able to get the Hot Keys to work in Windows 7. It would be nice to be able to control the volume now and then. :)

Then I have a HDA Soft Modem with an unknown modem with it listed in the Device Manager. Any ideas what that might be?
Since they are not really slowing me down, I'm not real worried about them, just be nice to fix them. ;) JohnP

The modem might be an old dial up type
Look in the bios , F2 while booting
Look for modem options there , and disable to see if it is removed from the device manager

    DESCRIPTION:

I have W7 on mine but never checked the volume Hot Keys. I use the one on the bottom right . Did you know that you can upgrade your cpu to a T7200 core 2 Duo ? Check it out http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/526150-cf-51-cpu-upgrading.html

    Tomcat57,
Sounded like a good idea, turned off the modem in the BIOS and rebooted. The HDA modem went away, but the Unknown Modem is still there.... Interesting.. JohnP

Did your modem driver readily available If not download the modem driver for XP SP2 and extract. On extraction use "run as administator" and it will extract to C:/util and then upgrade the modem driver thru device manager and then pointed it out to where it extrcted. Good luck.

Is there any other items you could selectively disable in the bios to narrow down this item

    ToughasNails,
I have been following that about the CPU upgrade, that is on my wish list! Now, about the hot keys, you say you use the one on the bottom right? OH! You mean the one on the screen! Duh!
Had me cornfused there for a minute! :) Yep, can't use the keys to change brightness or volume on the fly.
I ended up using that USB audio to external speakers with a manual volume knob, that works! JohnP

    It's solved!! :D
I had turned off the modem in the BIOS as suggested. I like to then uninstall drivers for a stubborn device to let the system try to sort out things again. Well, after rebooting, the 'unknown device' was not tagged off the modem but on it's own. When I looked at the device info, it was now listed as MAT0019. That's an improvement! Googled that and it has to do with the Panasonic Hotkeys!
OK, went back to my drivers directory and reinstalled the Hotkey drivers, in Admin Mode as suggested and voila I have hot key function!! :D
Both Brightness and Volume work now via the keyboard! Thank you guys! Never could have gotten it without your help!! ;) I am now a happy camper!! Now, to start tracking a T7200.... :p JohnP
