It should plug right in to the cf51. The only issue with that auction is that it doesn't include the car lighter plug cord. Most auctions don't have that cable.

That is the car plug in the bag, got to watch out though. There are a LOT of them on there that are missing the car plug.

I got the supply, it comes with both cables and was packed nicely. The tip is correct. But it is overheating and shutting down with the T7200 machine. It takes about 20 minutes or so but it is shutting down. I remember a conversation with Lind a couple years ago about a car adapter than Panasonic had a current limiting requirement for their adapter to keep things from overheating. That may not have anything to do with this but I've never had one of the Panasonic supplies shut down on me. I'll give this one to the wife so she has a better supply and find another 5A OEM unit for myself.

Try this. Going into bios and put the temperature setting at high. It won't charge the battery over 80% though, but may stop that problem by cutting down on some of the internal heat.

If you want a BIG Panasonic charger look for CF-AA1683A MA I have only run across one of these and still have it. It is the 8.0 A charger. The brick on it is a lot bigger than the standard units.

Make sure the fan(s) are running. On the cf51 that I upgraded the cpu, the fans ran almost all the time. My cf51 had the power port go bad also. These 2 items could cause the laptop to draw more power, which would overheart the power brick. Are you running it with abattery in or out. Try it without a battery and see what happens.

Don't know if this is a useful comparison or not.
I have one of these Lenovo 72W AC/DC Combo Adapters, output is 0 - 4.55A at 16V, been using it with no issues at all on my CF-52 Mk.1 which also has the T7200. Mine has basic onboard video though.

Infrared thermometer shows this charger does run warmer at 45C than the 8A Panasonic units at 32C in the same conditions - but you would expect that and 45C shouldn't be a problem. Yours may be hotter? 45C isn't uncomfortable to hold in your hand.

SpeedFan 4.44 shows my hdd 36C, cores 43C, fan runs quietly, slightly faster on load but never dramatic.
Maybe worth checking your heatsink pads/compound, processor activity in task mgr. and battery connections for oxidation/poor contact at terminals, especially if battery's hardly ever removed from the laptop.
Intermittent battery fault possibly? Careful now! :D

Just in case I wasn't clear. The laptop does not run hot - the adapter gets hot as hell and shuts itself off until you unplug it for a bit. I've got the 8A brick and have been lugging it around for a year or so but it's now permanently wired to my desk and docking station. The 5A unit has never shut down on me under any condition and is much more portable than the 8A brick so I'll just look for another of those. If you look around they are not that much more than a non-Panasonic alternative.

I suspect the video may well have something to do the power consumption but I'm surprised that it would be the deciding factor. Perhaps I'll throw a T7200 in my other machine at some point and see how it works out but really it all seems moot if I can just buy the right thing and be done with it.

Right on Q the 3A IBM supply the wife was using starting doing the same shut down routine - so she's got the new IBM unit we are talking about and so far so good with her.
