    Okay -

I'm in the final throes... err, stages of getting the CF-51 Driller gifted me ready for my Dad. I've nuked the existing user profiles and have a nice clean new one for him in Vista (I know; but I'm all out of Win7 licenses and MS hasn't released 8 on the promo deal just yet), he's here visiting mom on their Birthday and I need to get it done before he goes home on the 19th. I have everything transferred over from his old Spotted Cow 5300 (Yes, that's right... he's had this one since Xmas of 2005, and it still looks like the day I gave it to him) but... the Misc Driver won't work.

I've searched & searched, I tried the Intel Automatic Update and Panasonic Vista Upgrade Drivers as outlined in the CF-51 Win7 thread; it updated everything, I reinstalled the Vista Misc driver, and... it doesn't work. It shows up in the System Devices tab in Device Manager, but there's still that pesky Exclamation next to an "Unknown Device", and the Hotkeys still don't work. Yes, I have sound.

Anybelly here got any more insight? My head's getting sore from all the scratching since I don't have hair for abrasion protection anymore... I done shaved it all off. Yes, even the ponytail.

    What the... ?

What is the model number of the CF-51? ;)

What is the hardware ID of the unknown device?

Oh, fudge... right, it's not in my sig.

    It's a Mk3LL: CF-51RC4KFBM

The HID in question is the well-known MAT0019 HotKey device. I've already followed the directions in the Panasonic Vista Upgrade documentation & Downloads; completed the entire process in order 3 times with the same results. The Misc driver installs, says it's installed corrrectly, and shows up in the System Devices tab. But the MAT0019 device is also present and nonfunctional.

    Yes, I ran as Admin.

Yes; the BIOS upgrade is the first thing in the instructions for upgrading to Vista. Already done by Driller.

Yes; HotKey Driver refuses to install as it is the wrong OS, and there is no way to invoke compatibility mode available.

It was my understanding that the Misc driver includes the HotKey driver on Vista & up; am I wrong in this?

I don't know. I can't remember what I did when I installed Win7 on a Mk3LL. I know I mostly used the Vista upgrade drivers. I can't remember specifically about the Hotkey driver.

Paul , check this out...I know it's for W7 but it might help Windows 7 On A CF-51 MK3 . I know when I installed W7 on my MK3LL I used all the XP drivers and never updated the bios. I would think Vista would be the same.

Well, no, I didn't update the BIOS - they tell you which version it needs to have, which it does have, so I guessed that Driller did it already when he put Vista on the machine.

That is what is REALLY torquing me off; I'm just trying to finish a Vista install using Vista drivers, why the frakk don't they work?

In that Device Manager listing the Panasonic Hotkey driver IS present, but the Panasonic Misc driver is NOT.

I have NO IDEA what the hork the difference is.

You lot are more experienced than me but I seem to remember that the Mat019 issue is something to do with updating the driver through the device manager. Think you double click on it in the DM, select update driver, choose the location, then point to the driver folder.
Basically it does not install itself automatically, it needs to be pointed out!
Apologises if you have already done this till blue in the face!
