Try a headphone or a earphone in the audio out jack
Mute is Fn + F4, vol up is Fn +F6 if the hotkey drivers are installed

If it worked on xp and won't on Vista then its a driver issue
I don't think its hotkeys as they should default to a working condition
You will have to update the sound card drivers somehow
Look for any xp drivers on the panasonic download site and try to update
The cf-51 series driver list probably does not have and vista drivers so if the xp do not work try to search the brand/type driver that the xp driver listed for the manufactures website

I had a CF-51 with Vista and everything was working perfectly. Follow Alex's advice and make sure the correct driver for your model is installed. Also, if memory serves me correct, there may have been an issue with one of the other drivers (hot keys maybe?) that caused the same problem in mine. All I remember was that I was working with several drivers at the same time and suddenly I had sound!

You have the incorrect driver installed. Just because it's installed doesn't mean it will work.

    Kev -

Uninstall the sound device in Device Manager; then run the XP sound card install program (Usually setup.exe in the folder you unzip the drivers to) in "XP Compatibility Mode". This is what I've done with all of my Vista & Win 7 installs; only had 2 that wouldn't run that way, and that was a DirectX compatibility issue.

Give that a try, then tell us what you get!

I had the same problem with my CF-51 Mk2ll (CF-51LCMDDBM) when I wiped out XP, and installed Windows7 and Ubuntu9.10 on a dual boot configuration.

Nothing I did would make the sound work, in either operating system.

I wiped out Windows 7, and reinstalled Windows XP. It wasn't until I reinstalled the hotkey driver in XP that I finally got audio back. Then to make it even more interesting, the audio suddenly worked in Ubuntu 9.10 again on my dual boot as well.

I think there is a switching function for the hardware that is handled within the Hotkey driver/configuration that is vital.

Something tells me I could have Windows 7 Audio as well as long as I leave XP as one of the boot options on this particular unit, but when I tried Win7 standalone, nothing worked. It wouldn't let me use the XP Hotkey driver at all (is this something that could have been installed in a "windows xp compatibility mode??) and the vista driver had limited functionality, but still no audio.
