    CF-51RCLDFBM Mk3LL Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz, 945GMDuo Core running W7 ...

When watching a SHORT vid on a website with only one tab open in IE and NOTHING else running, the vid hangs and I get that rangerrangrangranger sound.

Sometime a message that the display driver has failed appears.
Sometimes if I wait, it goes back to working but it may fail and start multiple times on one vid.
Sometimes I have to unplug the power adapter and pull the battery out. CTRL-ALT-DLT dosn't work.

i don't recall if I'm using a video driver W7 selected or if I found one on the Panasonic website.
This has been going on for some time.
I recently installed some universal codec pack but it still wangerrangerrangrangs.

    Thank you for any help.

What is the video extension? Do you wait for the video to fully download (or buffer)?
I suggest deleting all vid drivers and installing the latest win7 driver from the video card manufacturer site.
Who knows what windows thinks the card is.

It happens when viewing youtube and any site that has an embedded video.
Strange things happen on the NY Times site too.

I deleted the vid driver and refreshed and it installed, I think it was, 915 chipset to reset the vid driver. The problem still occurs.

    I am using a CF51RC.
Mine is a mk3LL with a core duo and it has an Intel 945 video chip. At least that is what shows up in device manager.
Have you tried a different browser?

You could try Intel's auto detect

    intel

My mk3LL came up with this one.

    945GM

If you click on the "view all" link under the downloads section, you can pick the latest drivers. They list many flavors of Win 7

If you actually have the 915 Intel chipset, therein lies your problem; that was the dividing line where Micro$uck and Interd decided to leave us all stranded with Vista/Win7, after, of course, dumping millions of units on the market as Vista-Capable. They ARE Vista/Win7 capable; as long as you disable the Aero interface. Proper Vista/Win7 Drivers are available from the Intel website, of course, for anything higher on the foodchain. Here's the download page for the 945 Family Chipset drivers:

915 Chipset? I'll pray for ya, buddy. ;)

Latest chipset driver - no better
latest java runtime - no better
latest flash player - no better

Chrome browser - it works with no tinkering
Firefox - no go - didn't tinker with it
IE - clicked compatibility mode - it works

Do you mean that the video will play fine in Chrome and IE (Compatibility Mode) but you ONLY have this issue when trying to play in FireFox?

    Hmmm...

The NYT site things work in Chrome and in IE with Compatibility Mode set.

My mistake, it's not on video it's on MP3 playback from the Internet.
When on a music site where you click a title to listen to an MP3, it still gets that wangawangarang sound in IE with only one tab opened to this music page.

Well, this occurs on a CF-51 I gave to my brother. I noticed that the NYT problem was gone. He still has the twanging sound problem and lockups when using IE. I haven't gotten any feedback from him if it occurs in Chrome.

I just noticed the same problem with a Lenovo 3000 n100 that I use. I NEVER had the problem when running Linux on the 3000. I just installed 7 and Firefox and got the twanging or slooooow sound as the vid slowed down to a crawl or nothing and then it locked up. It would come back if I would just wait forever. This occurred when I had many youtube tabs open. I did have FF add-ons that prevents youtube vids from all loading at once. So I actually only had one vid loading at a time when this happened.

My 3000 has the 945 video chipset. I think my brother CF-51 has the same.
MS Security Essentials shows no virus. I have gotten a NEW window in FF that says three things have been detected. After two days of no sleep, I stupidly clicked on clean computer or some such on THEIR page. I believe that is a scam/virus/fishing or some such. I scanned my computer and found no virus. I got the same window a few days later, scanned and found nothing. I mentioned this to my brother. He hasn't experienced that window.

That window is a virus. I can't think of the name, but it's an ugly little bugger.

    linky linky

    fake virus popup

If it's the same one that I have encountered, it's a real pita. I had to reformat all of the computers at my last job because of this fake virus popup.

The lock-ups persist on my Lenovo 3000 n100 even when I'm not watching video and when I don't have a browser open.
It often happens when I'm ripping my DVD collection or downloading a file.
I get the message that the video driver stopped.
Sometimes I don't get that message on lock-up.
It often restarts if I wait for it or if I <Alt><Tab> several times and then wait for it to come back to life and execute the many <Alt><Tabs> I pressed while it was locked-up.
I often hear my brother ticked-off when he's using his CF-51 when he's only doing one thing on it.
