I am going to buy a new LCD for my CF--52. It currently has an Ebay glossy WUXGA screen.
I would like the lower res. WXGA screen from the lower line CF-52 so to be easier on my eyes.

When i change my resolution now the screen shrinks and doesnt use the edges,
Interpolation? ( sorry have to catch up on my geek).

I plan on getting an ebay WXGA 1200*800 (i think) and just setting my resolution to that. Do you think that will work?

I'm running windows 7 on the ATI 2300 model

P.S. Why dont toughbooks just "fit to screen" like everything else?

WXGA and WUXGA more than likely use a different connector on the lcd. You will need to get a whole new LCD cable. I have swapped XGA and UXGA on CF 51's and CF 50's. They all needed a new cable.

Thanks I'll try and find some pictures online and see if theres a difference. A panasonic connector could be more than the lcd

On a sidenote, is higher res screen possible on cf-28? 800x600 is killing my eyes...

Standard res for CF-28 was 1024x768. Maybe you have the transflective screen?

It is possible to swap transflective for standard screens in the Mk2 (800 MHz) and Mk3 (1 GHz) versions, but more tricky with the older Mk1. There is a selector solder bridge for video resolution on the Mk1 motherboard that I couldn't do right to make that swap work.

Dunno if its transreflective or not but i can tell you that its a touchscreen mk2 and the colors are like crap. There is a shade of blue that becomes green. Utterly annoying.

On my old touchscreen cf-28 I removed the touchscreen, glass and plastic. Thats about four-sixx layers of stuff between the bare screen. I then cut a piece of lexan to fit over the exposed screen. It looked great afterwards.

If you have the 12" screen (borders about 1 1/8" all around the screen) it's transflective. If you have the 13.3" screen (borders about 1/2" all round the screen) it's backlit only. There were only these two LCDs offered for the CF-28 through its entire production. Mk1's (600MHZ) needed the solder pad tweak and different LCD cable; Mk2/Mk3 (800MHZ/1000MHZ) models auto-selected, but you did need to update drivers.
