I find I am in need of the wiring diagram/schematics for a CF-52 MK3. In particular the area for the backlight inverter and graphics area. I have the service manuals.

I am guessing you have checked the MK1/2 Schematic to see if they are the same as the MK3 ?

Actually I didn't forget too much. I tried to get on while at work but no success. When I got home, yea, I kinda forgot.

I am trying to sort out display problems I have with two MK3 motherboards. One, the screen flashes between purple and blue mostly purple. The other has no backlight. The display is there just no backlight. I have swapped the entire lid with screen between both and I know the inverter is good. I did check the fuses but one thing I found strange was that the one where the backlight is good is MISSING a fuse. I will sort it out.

Anyway, more info later if anyone is interested.

Speaking of back light. Did you know that Heartland does not sell backlights...you must send them your laptop and they will replace it ...about $150.00 bucks later. That is what they told me today..called about my CF-19MK2 backlight

because of the colors: sounds like a broken LVDS-cable between lid and chassis.
because of the inverter: And the not faulty display does not lit up? do u have 11-12V on the inverter pins? And what about the pwm-signal? It is the same in all toughbooks with CCFL-backlight.

I haven't done much troubleshooting on the color issue problem but I have on the backlight issue. I found that the board is MISSING a chip. I have the voltages on pins 1 and 2 but am missing the voltage on pin 5. It should be around 3.2 volts and changes with the FN F1 or F2 keypresses. I found I have nothing there. Tracing out the circuit I found a chip missing. It looks as though someone had done some troubleshooting in the past and pulled the chip. Now I found that this chip is hard to find. The two main chips in issue are a simple AND gate and the other a simple OR gate. TC7SH08FU for the AND and TC7SH32FU for the OR. The AND gate is bad and the OR gate is missing. The AND I can find but the OR is a problem. Every place I have looked so far has a minimum order of 3000 or $500.

Anyone have bad CF-52 motherboards you want to get rid of?

BTW, I have changed out the video cable on the one with bad color with no change. I also got a new screen with no change. It is time to reflow the GPU.

I got this from ADOR (Paul) and all I know is that it's dead but he might know more about it. I can pull it apart this weekend if you want it.

I did find them but they have a $25 minimum order and honestly I can't come up with that amount of stuff I need. The chips are only .45 each and I'm not ordering 56 of them when I need one.

I will send you a PM

I got that off of ebay as a dead unit and played with it some. I was going to try and see if re-flowing the board would make it work as the lights would pop on. Don't remember if the fan would spin or not. But just never got around to it. Then toughasnails needed if for his project so I let it go. Don't really know much on the history on it. I do think it did try to spin up the dvd drive that was in it when I got it.

    WELCOME TO THE tOUGHBOOK FORUM
Thank you for the offer for the schematics for the MK1 but we do have that one...now if you had the MK2  . The MK2 seams to be the hard one to find.
