Hello,
I'm new to this forums so Hi to all!
I have a quite big problem with two toughbooks CF-52 (CF-52PFNBVQ3). Both of them were maintained (cleaned, new thermal paste, ...) and copletely reinstaled because of need of x64 Windows 7.
After clean installation of Windows 7 x64 the laptops started to overheat and its fan runs for full speed. Temperature od CPU turns over 100°C, fan runs for full speed and after about 30seconds it calms down for a few seconds.. And it does not stop. I've tried to install all drivers through Panasonics download utility and nothing helped. Also I've tried to boot Linux from USB and it was cold, quiet and calm (!!!). So there's an issue with Windows and I can't find out how to solve it. At this time both laptops are unusable :/
So one of the laptos is after a clean installation and I'm trying to find a solution... The only one what helped was to set up Maximul state of CPU in Windows Power manager to 50%.... But it turned it to very slow PC...
Does anyone has an experience with it? Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!

I just ran into that with a desktop that had a power fluctuation, it went into that cycle because Windows saw low voltage during a brownout. So my question is what power adapter are you running, make ,model and specs please.

Never had a 52 overheat like that.
I have owned all up to a CF52S mk4 with ATI graphics.
I had a CF52P as my daily user for a few months until I jumped up to a CF52M with the ATI graphics chip. I never experienced extreme overheating that I was aware of. If I recall correctly, the fan on the CF52P did run more than the other models.
I always run Win7 32 bit. I have tested Linux 64 bit. No comparison between the two. On any i3//i5 Linux 64 bit screams. Windows 64 bit can still be a pig unless you have 6gb or more ram.
My suggestion will be scoffed at by some guys here.
I say to contact Heartlands and spend the $35 for an official Win7 64 bit recovery DVD for your model. It will install everything exactly as it should be with zero room for error. It does this by using a drive image from Panasonic.
Good point Kerry,
Some 52's require the 7amp charger. It should state the requirements on the bottom.
From a CF52P manual
AC adapter--Output: 15.6 V DC, 7.05 A
What CPU is in your CF-52P's?

yep ...
i did not see mention of the panasonic *drivers* being installed .
also ... back in the W7 settings there is a "power management" section .
make sure that the "minimum cpu state" is set to (say) 5% and the maximum is set to 100% ...
i have seen this cause the problem you are experiencing .
double check the physical condition of the heatsinks ...
the chances of two of them being put together wrong are pretty low , but , it can happen . -
Are there any processes running at 100% CPU load during that time?
-
I'll try to check the heatsing but both laptops are very busy and maybe it won't be possible to unassebly them again.... I hope I'll find sime time for that.

Recovery DVD is different. The DVD installs a perfect "as it left the factory" image of the optimum OS settings and drivers.
The driver bundle has the same drivers but, if your system has a minor issue the bundle will skip installing some drivers. It has happened to me more than once. I have had to force install drivers due to Windows thinking the default installed one was better. Or Windows refusing to acknowledge the proper hardware and skipping the driver.
Many Panasonic drivers have given me a hard time installing if I did not run the install as Administrator.
Also where did you get the Win7 64bit install image? I used to use a Dell DVD. It works but, Dell has tweaked certain settings that could affect how a non Dell runs.
It sounds like this is for a business. $35 is a very cheap gamble to see if it solves your problem. Well worth the purchase to me. Time is money...toughasnails likes this. -
Another one - I've just find out that there is an WMI Performance Adapter service which turns off and on repeatedly and the temperature and fan speed reacts on its status. But its only assumption... -
Try disabling the service. As far as I know it's not crucial for normal usage.

Either way, the recovery CD option should definitely be explored. Let us know how that goes.

Sort of related..I read this a few years back. From what bits I can remember...............
Seems that Intel and Microsoft had power/thermal disagreement. Microsoft insisted on reworking and doing there own controls. MS did not trust that Intel knew what they were doing. The 2 schemes actually worked against each other. -
