I just replaced the hard drive with a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB.
Using a factory restore disc I am now at the desktop with a popup message saying "Wait several minutes while the optimal configuration is being set. After completing the settings, restart automatically".
This message has been on for 45 minutes. Is this normal?
I assume it will restart automatically. How long does this take?
-
45 minutes seems long to me.
-
Got tired of waiting so after an hour I restarted. Configuring Windows updates message appeared before it rebooted and showed up again before booting to the desktop. It's not connected to the internet so don't know why it appeared.
All seems good. Just missing the GOBI driver. I will install it then turn it off in the BIOS since it is not needed.
Windows 7 x64 is activated.
Time for Windows updates after I install Samsung Magician and optimize. -

Mine was not that long, maybe 10 minutes at most
-
Installed Magician 4.6 and it only partial recognizes it. Shows serial and firmware version but everything else is n/a Information is only available for Samsung brand SSDs.
AHCI was set in BIOS prior to install. -
Have you checked for any firmware updates for the SSD? Sounds like the install got slightly cross-threaded. I would install any firmware updates then do a fresh restore. As for the GOBI card, if you don't plan on using it, either remove it or disable it in the BIOS, then no need to load drivers you will not use.
My $0.02 -
Yes I have and there is 1 but it wont allow it as the update program cant find the drive using the boot cd. Cant update from Magician as its greyed out for same reason I believe.
-
Reload from scratch seems like a good idea
-
Can you post a photo of the offiial restore disk you have?
The Win7 64bit is puzzling me some.....
As far as I know the official recovery disk for a CF52P mk3 is Win7 32bit, not 64bit..Last edited: Apr 26, 2015 -
When I bought a CF-52P MK3 disk from Heartland two weeks ago she asked "32 or 64?"
CAP -
Well then..
-
Yes from Heartland.

I started from scratch and same issues. Please wait screen and Samsung not recognized by Magician.
I uninstalled intel drivers and used MS default with no difference. Tried all sorts of stuff trying to get the firmware updated with no luck.
Kinda on back burner now since others need theirs on Monday. -
Do you have a standard HDD to try?
It's possible there is a hardware incompatibility issue with the SSD...
One idea to try.
Get the CF52 running with a standard HDD.
Then put the SSD in a usb case and update the firmware for the SSD and try again?
another thought..
Try a standard Win7 32bit install..see how that goes.Last edited: Apr 26, 2015 -
I have 2 usb cases and neither work. They load their own drivers.
If I had a sata cable I could plug it in the desktop but dont have any here.
Comparing it to my 512gb 840 Pro in device manager the names are different.
The CF-52P is all loaded up with all the updates.
Not going to reinstall a 3rd time at this point.
If I get time tomorrow and the ram doesn't arrive I may take it over to a buddy who owns a PC shop I do business with.
When I got my first 840 Pro I could have sworn they came with a SATA to USB cable for migration. Those are 2h away along with most my parts/spares. -
I did a clean install of Win7 on an 840 Pro 256 GB in a CF-52P a couple of weeks ago, and Magician (from the factory disk) wouldn't fully recognise the drive. I uninstalled the software and downloaded Magician 4.6 from Samsung's website and it ran fine.
Shawn likes this. -
I tried from 4.6 down to 4.2. MS standard drivers and different Intel versions. No luck at all. It boots and runs much faster then the 5400 rpm that it replaced even without Magician. Customer is happy with the speed.

The last couple I've bought (in retail boxes) have had the drive, the CD and the paperwork, but no cable.
Magician has a little 'authenticate' routine at the top of the main page; perhaps Samsung suspects there are some fake 840 Pros floating around? -
The name shows and the serial number shows but it detects it as non samsung.
-
I think I have found an answer. I read this info from an auction.
Samsung 840 Pro series 256GB OEM SSD Brand New with 0 hours
This drive is an OEM drive, NOT retail. It does not include any accessories or software and will not ship in the retail box, it will ship in the factory sealed OEM box as shown in the photos and may include a bracket for installation into certain model HP laptops. It will also not work with the Samsung Magician software due to it being an OEM model. The OEM model is identical in specs to the retail.
Model # MZ-7PD256M
My Model # MZ-7TD256HAFV turns out to be a Lenovo OEM. -
Well spotted! )
I wonder what this means for firmware updates, can you get anything from Lenovo that works? -
another case of RTFP and *caveat emptor* .
-
I have never been able to get ANYTHING from Lenovo that works
.....That's why I buy Toughbooks.....
-
I just installed a Samsung 850 Pro in another CF-52P and Magician works just fine. I still had the same issue after installing from Recovery disk telling me to please wait that never went away.Last edited: May 15, 2015
