I've been researching this topic for the last few days, and my efforts seem to lead to this forum...
I have a CF-53 mk3. I successfully installed the Fingerprint reader from a pulled unit; works great.
I have recently acquired at MC7355 Gobi 5000 card and have an active Verizon SIM card.... Just need the last few steps to get this active. Unfortunately, I can't be without the laptop for any time, so I need to get this last step for the WWAN card done locally...![]()
Any help is much appreciated!

We need more information.
What steps have you done?
Where is locally? Cleveland, Moscow, Anchorage, Dubai.?
Are you looking for us to talk you through it?
Or are you asking where to go so you can pay them to do "the last few steps"? -
Steps completed so far:
- MC7355/Gobi 5000 installed, both antenna wires connected.
- Current Sierra AirPrime MC7355 drivers downloaded from Panasonic & Sierra and installed (which I'm pretty sure were the same).
- Valid, active Verizon SIM installed and validated at Verizon.
- CF-53's Device Manager & VZ Access Manager don't see the MC7355.
If that is not possible, I'd be willing to bring the laptop to a shop that can do it for me, but I'd have to wait for it (which shouldn't be a big deal, as I'm pretty sure at this point it's about 10 minutes worth of work).
I'm open to other options as well.
Thx! - MC7355/Gobi 5000 installed, both antenna wires connected.

Thanks!
"ff" is the current value. Should it be "ff" or "00" (zero zero), or something else?
DISREGARD... I found the correct answer on another thread here... the correct entry needs to be "0" (zero). I rebooted with that value and the WWAN card appeared.
Thanks for the help!!!Last edited: Nov 13, 2015 -

Speaking on that note; any idea how to get the GPS active on this MC7355 card? Do I have to utilize an external/AT command, or is GPS native? I know it's capable. -
After additional research, I've learned that this WWAN card DOES have the GPS activated by default, no AT commands needed. I just had to tell Windows 7 to see the GPS by "enabling" the NMEA portion of the card in Control Panel>Location and Other Sensors... A simple check mark there and my Toughbook CF-53 now has 'native' GPS! -
does the gobi 5000 have a gps antenna port?
I believe it does.
connecting a small patch antenna will give you much better results on the gps.
I have A LOT of small patch antennas..I will donate one to you... -
