    I have a CF-73ECKTXDM

    I was sold 1gb that was sposed to work/fit a cf-73E

Well It didn't even fit but did fit in the CF-73X my wife had-

    Question:

What besides the: pc2100s spec must I be sure to match? - I just went on the seller's word for the first stick ;(

It had a 256 mb DDR PC2100 CL2.5 That worked till it took a dump-

    Thanks as always!

It shows that your Mk1 takes ddr 2100, your wifes x model is a Mk5 and takes DDR2 3200, sound like they send you the wrong ram, or someone put the wrong sticker on it. Any pictures of the ram and what marking are on it.

OK - Update More information The Cf-73 E was used for a while buy my 8 YO DD with out the memory cover for a while. When I found out I parked the laptop until the cover was replaced.

The baseline of the symptom is whether I use the memory it had all along, the 256 or another 1 gig I bought that is PC2100 the system crashes.

I also tried it running with a copy of puppy lunux. It hangs up when testing the memory-....

So I fear the time it ran around with out it's memory cover ....Something in hardware was violated?

    Question?

What test do I do to confirm that-

It almost is looking like a need a motherboard?

Thanks in advance for your help as always

Possibly something wrong with the memory connector. Look inside at the contacts very closely with a flashlight and magnifier. Clean the connection with some 91% alcohol or electrical contact cleaner (Radio Shack) and compressed air. If it's cracked, try taping the memory module in to make good contact.

    Thanks-

After that cleaning & blowing out it doesn't like even the old 256 mem that was running in it.... So we are on the right track

I'm thinking there may be some or a pin in the memory slot that may of been compromised or dented / bent. I need to find a more powerful eye piece to get a better look & "operate"

    any suggestions...
