I have a CF-74 - with a new HD and fresh install of XP...

    The problems I am having>

    1. I cannot get the "Function" keys to work - I have downloaded all of the drivers and they do not work - is there something in BIOS I am missing?
i.e. the keys to control the screen brightness and sound up down/off

    2. I cannot get the wireless card to work.
I have tried all of the drivers listed for the MKII and nothing works... it is listed as unknown device in Device manager.

when installing the Intell software - it never recognizes the card and says "no driver installed"

is there a way to scan the machine to identify the card?

also - how do you take it apart to identify the card? Is it under the keyboard?

    thanks in advance!
    Joe

New to toughbooks myself but from my reading & limited experience drivers seem almost always to be the problem. I found Unknown Device Identifier (free) useful in similar circumstances. Visual of the card won't necessarily ID it so I'd definitely hold off on the dismantling for now.
Still early a.m. in the USA but one of the experts will be along soon I'm sure.
    edit: here's one now...

Hmmmm... it is an Army unit - Blackhawk guys by the stamping on the battery.

    Model number if CF-74FCBCZBM

but that still does not explain the issue with the unknown device.... hmmm

    Thanks for the help!

As I suspected , no wi-fi network card

This is what I added to my federal model, it should have the antenna's so only thing missing is the card...then the drivers
    http://www.intel.com/products/wireless/prowireless_mobile.htm

The function keys not working is to do with missing hot key drivers, then usually need to be manually installed in device manager ,pointing the unknown device to the correct extracted file where the drivers were extracted in C:utility's2

Just ask and I will send you a manual on disassembly ,helpful if you decide to install wi-fi
