CF-C2 Mouse Stopped

My wife was playing a game on her CF-C2 and the mouse stopped working. Control panel system said all was well, I uninstalled it and reinstalled Panasonic driver, reports all is well, no mouse... Ran Panasonic Diagnostics, it says mouse is well.... Is NOT

Is there some set of keystrokes that turned the mouse off or is this a hardware failure....

many laptops have a shortcut key to turn off the mouse touchpad. Fn and f8 for example. I looked at mine and did not see a disable key.
you can also try to uninstall the mouse and reboot the computer. it should reinstall auto. If you have a usb drive you can run a live version of linux, eg linux mint and it will auto detect the mouse right away. I have fixed many laptops that had the touch pad fail but not any toughbooks so far

 

Looking at one of the Bob Johnson videos, it appears that the 2 keys and the pad are separate units, yet the whole mouse appears to have crapped out... I downloaded and installed the Synaptics CF-C2 Win 8 driver and installed it, no luck, driver properties report that the mouse is working....

I guess I'll find a spare drive and try Linux tomorrow and see if it finds the mouse...

 

use a live boot with linux mint. i guess for now you can use a plugged in mouse. fortunately there are many of these units now for cheap and you can prob get one for parts. I have taken the mouse pads off cf-19 and other laptops. some are glued down but easier to change the top case.

Oh boy, I tried it, first it couldn't find a boot device, so I went back and selected ufei device, it booted into the blue screen of death stating that a critical process failed... It then went into auto fixit mode and said it couldn't do it.. It suggested restoring the computer to an earlier state, I tried that but it said I didn't have protection activated in drive c..... I said OK, let's try and restore win 10 keeping my user files.... It said no can't do that....

Told my wife, don't worry, we're making great progress....

 

If you reinstall windows your user files will be safe. if you do a regular install they move the whole install to winowd.old on the c drive. What i normally do is pull the drive and put it into a usb external enclosure and copy and save peoples files. Once you did that and all was saved, clean install. Then install the Panasonic driver pack.
easy linux way is the program yumi to make a bootable device and changing your bios to boot from usb etc.

 

You just gave me an idea.... I noticed playing with it last night that there is a reinstall partition on the drive. I may make a copy of the drive to my desktop and then let the C2 restore it's self. That should be a genuine Panasonic reinstall either Win 8 or Win 10 given that this is a CF-C2A, if 8 then I'll download an update to 10... Then I can go to the desktop and restore her files....

And when all of this is done, I've still got the mouse problem to deal with....... Much like the old joke about draining the swamp.

 

That would work. I never had a toughbook with a factory drive but most laptops have the option to factory restore. It might be windows 8 on your model though. to save time there is a newer version of windows 10 out v2004. you could download the iso and install.
have a usb mouse on hand to make it easier

 

Going back to the original problem, I don't understand why the whole touchpad assembly would fail, looking at the Johnson pad replacement video, it appears that they are separate components....

PS - She also did in her CF-T8 before the CF-C2, spilled a glass of coke in the keyboard..... I gave her my spare CF-30 to use for now, She hates it, but it is almost indestructible, maybe I'd better order the rubber keyboard....

 

did you factory restore the laptop?
I took mine a part today. I upgraded the ram. The inside slot requires basically total disassembly lol. I never checked if the touchpad came off but it would probably be easier just to replace the top cover if the touchpad is damaged. There are tons of these machines now in recycling and parts like the top cover touch pad should be easy to get.
still worth fixing or use a wireless mouse, bluetooth.

 

Well, I finally got the original Win 10 on the machine to boot up again.... The solution was to do a manual restore from the command prompt activating the windows directory as well as renaming system and software files..

Now, back to the mouse... I have the donor CF-C2 machine that my son cracked the screen on (he still hasn't destroyed his old CF-30 MK1) I'll try to figure out how to replace the entire pad and buttons by taking apart the donor, otherwise I'm going to pack up the machine and send it to Bob Johnson in Wilmington (my wife's preferred option)...

 

Talked to Bob Johnson today... Need to take the machine apart to get to the plug for the mouse buttons... They have a flat rate of $125 plus parts.... Wife made the final decision...... Send it....... Since it's her machine, I know better than to argue.....

 

For only 125 probably a good choice for your wife's laptop. I have heard good things about the business. let me know how it turns out in the end.
