Hi all, upgrading my CF-19 mk1 to a D1 for diagnostic work, but some older programmes won't run on 7 only XP.

I can do the dual boot, but as the D1 is touch only, how can I choose between the OS at the boot menu?

Anyone done this? can any of the hard keys be set up?

Depends on the model D1 you have.

On the retail versions with the standard from buttons, you can most likely use them to navigate grub or a boot menu.
However on the custom Celeron versions that are all over Ebay, you are screwed.
The buttons on those units are custom mapped and have ZERO affect on a boot menu.

MAYBE on a windows boot menu, the touchscreen will work. On grub for linux, it will not.
Wireless keyboard / mouse probably not either. A wired one would be needed.

    Been down this road.

Yeah mine is an 847 celeron.

Had no issue dual booting on my old cf-19 but obviously that had a keyboard. I suppose I could let it boot into one or the other and then maybe use iReboot to force a reboot into the other OS?

Or be like me and buy an entire second Dee One just to get the hard drive caddy for booting a different OS.

FYI there are Live Windows images out there. Download the iso onto a usb stick and boot to that.
You might need to tweak it a bit to add your needed programs.
There are lots of instructions on the web on how to modify or create your own Windows live iso.
I have ones for W7 and W10. Very handy tool.

    Just an FYI,
The Celeron D1's that were on ebay have a custom bios.
    NO UEFI option at all.
On some Linux versions booting in UEFI will get a touchscreen and/or onscreen keyboard in grub.

I've gone down the route of Windows 7 and "XP mode" install. Far simpler way of doing it for what I need. Integration is there for networking, usb and other peripherals so.

So no problem with installing W7 or even W10 down the road.
