I wonder if that one has a Anatel splash screen like that 19MK6 mobo we had that time...there's a Anatel sticker in the one image above.

I can fix that if it does as long as the unit has unlocked BIOS.
-
FYI, I can get these brand new from my international Toughbook partner if anyone needs new units. Thanks!

Without handle
I like the stand but don't really care for the handle.

Can you get the recovery DVD for a mk1? Win7 64bit.
Panasonic does not list a driver bundle on the Japan site.
The D1 has 50 count em 50 drivers.
D1 is scheduled to arrive today.
First things to do.
Install SSD
Try Deepin Linux on SSD.(It is already on the SSD.)
Try CF 31 Bluetooth board in D1. I know where the BT connector is.
Maybe an early CF 19 Bluetooth will work.
Try to find a gps board that will work. I don't know where the gps connector is yet. Going to try a CF 19 gps because I have 6 of them.
Probably remove the very large top handle but keep the stand.UNCNDL1 likes this. -

What I would really like to know once you get the D1 up and running which tablet do you like the best G1 or D1.

Briefly tried Deepin on SSD
Works ok. Tablet buttons do nothing in Linux.
Touchscreen must be set to touchscreen in BIOS not tablet or auto.
Touchscreen would need calibrated.
Intel 7260 card works fine.
CF 31 mk1/2 Bluetooth does NOT work.
Did not bother with gps--Realized I don't care enough to fight with it. Bluetooth failure discouraged me.
It is a custom BIOS-don't know what all the difference is. I do not recall seeing the settings in the BIOS to assign the front buttons to user choices.
It appears that some of the front buttons have custom icons on them and not the stock icons.
Screen rotation button works and on screen keyboard button works. Also the key button to lock windows works (cntrl alt del). One button blacks out the screen (I have no clue what it is doing in the background.)
I have not figured how to (or if I can) scroll the menu choices in a grub boot menu or a windows "did not shut down properly" menu on the D1. Could not even get anything to work as an enter key.
D1 vs G1- Tough call. My G1 has the Ikey keyboard which is very nice to use. Probably just a learning curve to get used to no keyboard on D1. I manage fine on my phone so the D1 should not be an issue.
D1 has awesome stand built in.
D1 has bigger screen which is MUCH nicer on the eyes and for touch use.
G1 is dual touch and supports multi touch and swipes for scrolling etc.
D1 uses 2.5 HDD, In a shockproof caddy.
G1 uses MSATA. Easy to swap.
D1 has 3 usb ports.
D1 has replaceable ram sticks
D1 has SD card reader
G1 is lighter, but when you add Ikey keyboard the difference is only 1 pound.
I feel the button issues would not be there with a standard D1 and not the customer specific model I have.
I say the D1 wins, but not by a landslide.
Overall, I feel the D1 will be easier to use. Easier to see and touch operate, Easier to read SD cards from my camera, Easier to connect usb devices.interestingfellow, UNCNDL1 and toughasnails like this. -
What kind of processor?
-
celeron 847 in mine.
retail models had i5 -
standard batteries in both seem to be comparable runtime.
Roughly 4hrs real use. I was doing a lot of file transfers from usb sticks on the D1 during the unofficial battery test. -
-
approx the same screen size. d1 is much heavier.
q1 is faster. my q1 has cameras and my d1 does not.
d1 is fully rugged and q1 is business rugged at best.
q1 has better resolution and an over all better screen.
D1 has several usb ports while q1 has 1 iirc.
d1 has removable battery and hdd caddy and q1 does not.
q1 and d1 both look more stylish than g1. g1 is more industrial looking.
the d1 is more ergonomic and useable for me.
That is once I adjust to only using the onscreen keyboard.
g1 and q1 both have keyboard docks available.
the d1 does not have a keyboard dock available.toughasnails likes this. -
Here is a problem with the D1.
Windows bluescreened on me.
Reboot but no button combo will let you scroll choices or work as enter key.
I did not do this install so who knows what is up with it blue screening.
The G1 will let up scroll and use a panel button for enter key.interestingfellow likes this. -

Mostly I like the sound of the D1. I agree on the handle but at least it slides out of sight and if you do need it at least it's there to use.

May get one of these to do basic navigation in grub or windows during boot.
Different models have arrows also.

Applied a mac os skinpack.
Seeing what all I can do to break the windows os while waiting for the ssd to arrive.

Intel ME firmware update will not run on this.
Gives me a "Not enough memory error"
Just had a thought. The update I tried was from Panasonic. Maybe I could run a generic firmware update. -
My D1 came without a screen protector. I ordered a pair of them from across the big pond.
While waiting for them I decided to look at soft tip stylus's or styli for some of you folk.
I found these to be close enough to fit in the D1 stylus dock.
For the engineer type people. The measurements are
Stock worn stylus-----8.96mm diameter
New Bamboo stylus---8.98mm diameter
That is ----------------0.02mm difference for the math challenged folk.
Measurements were taken with a digital caliper that came across the other big pond.

Don't try Linux on a D1.
At least until Linux fixes the onscreen keyboard.
You can't use onscreen to input passwords or search in Whisker menu.
Bamboo stylus with rubber tip works very nice. -
I did find a clunky looking but functional little keyboard while looking through Synaptic package manager.
Typing with it now. It shows up as Keyboard virtual keyboard in MX menu.
Hmmm, now which one was it.....
From terminal (TYPE H FOR HELP)after:
Code:man matchbox-keyboard
interestingfellow and Shawn like this. -
That Virtual keyboard is great news as long as I have a mechanical keyboard so I can install it in the first place.
Now we need to get the Linux distros to use matchbox-keyboard from the start instead of the non working one they use now.
Great work Jeff. thanks.interestingfellow likes this. -
Tried my Deepin OS drive on the D1.
Looks very nice. Like the D1 and Deepin are made to be together.
Touchscreen did not work. Deepin OS does not seem to adjust to different hardware very well.
I am trying a clean install to see how that goes, Then probably back to Win7 but not sure since the buttons on the Celeron D1's don't do much anyway.
Deepin seems to be a good fit for the 13" screen of the D1. As long as I get an on screen keyboard and touchscreen to operate. Deepin is setup to navigate easily on a touchscreen.
The Deepin app center is nice but the selection is "popular" apps only. If you want something odd like Matchbox keyboard look in Synaptic.
------------------------------------------------------
I found my D1 had mismatched ram. One was 2Rx8 and one was 1Rx8, 10600 and 12800.
Might not have been an issue, but I had two Panasonic matched ones 10600, so I swapped them in.
It was acting odd when I tried to load w10 from a usb stick the other day.
I did get w10 loaded by swapping the drive from the D1 to the 52. At first reboot, I swapped the drive back to the D1.
W10 worked except for not having the proper video driver. After a while it seemed to correct itself.
I dunno. Maybe I did something I don't remember. Panasonic does not have w10 drivers for the D1 mk1. probably need to force w8 drivers for a couple yellow checkmarked items.
After clean install and reboot, Deepin OS does NOT find the touchscreen,
OH wait a minute, now I recall, I need to change the setting in the D1 BIOS just like I had to on the G1 with Deepin.
That got the touchscreen working, but it wont calibrate properly. It is off. It seems worse closer to the edges.
A few tweaks here and there and the original onscreen keyboard is working. Even let me put in a password.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 30, 2019 -
did you get any further with installing the GPS, I am curious what connector is used for it ?
-
Sheepman! and I did make some progress on the Bluetooth.
He used a second WIFI card with Bluetooth in the WWAN slot. I had luck with this approach before on CF 31's and FZ-G1's
I have some dedicated Mini PCIE Bluetooth cards and I tried one of those. Windows says it works, but I have not got a signal yet.
I am working on the antenna.
I have a "test mule" CF D1 coming. Got it cheap as it is missing a few bits. I am more willing to experiment on it than my good one.
Once it arrives, I will use my multimeter to ring out the Bluetooth and gps connections.Last edited: Apr 19, 2019 -

I did not like how the other card was working so I swapped in a Intel 6235.
All good on Windows 7. I just need to install my phone driver to fully connect.

Can anyone tell me if the wwan antena from any other toughbook is compatible with a mk1 cf-d1?

You will need to cut it to make it fit physically.
-
would anyone have a d1 wwan part no ? -
/\ This screw holds the card. Not seen is a rib on the case of the D1. To align the ffc squarely, a tiny notch can be made in the side of the bluetooth card. Hold it up to the light and try to miss anything critical.
Also of concern is that the components on the bluetooth card (CF-19) must be isolated from the fan case.
Remove the plastic cover from the end of the fan and the antenna mount for bluetooth is there.
AFTER I DID THIS THE CARD DID NOT SHOW IN BIOS. I DIDN'T PARTICULARLY CARE AS I ALREADY HAD BLUETOOTH WORKING ON WWAN (6230) . THE NEXT TIME I TAKE THE D1 APART MAYBE I'LL TRY HARDER.
I WAS OUT OF COMPONENTS AND TIME.

can we still get the car dock for the d1 or are they a rare item to come by? ive had a serch with no look
-
I misread your post. Thought you were asking about bluetooth.
I installed the WWAN antennas from a CF-29. They fit with no trimming in existing threaded holes under corner rubbers. One screw per antenna.
The connector ends slide through existing holes alongside the WLAN cables and it buttons up neatly.
-
When is your test unit due for arrival Shawn?
Stole your image: -
Post a photo of those CF 29 antennas if you can. -
O.K...................had a breakdown in my digital camera card reader. I'll get back to this.
Well here's one for click-bait.
Turns out they are Wlan. Number is on the antenna.
EDIT: I HAVE A SET OF WWAN FOR CF-31. EVENTUALLY I'LL CHANGE IT.Last edited: Apr 24, 2019 -

OS doesn't matter because he was talking about a BIOS setting.
To get into BIOS, press the F2 key when you see the blue Panasonic screen. -

Just so you know....
Despite what the device manager says the NMEA function is disabled in Gobi 1000. IOW no integrated GPS on Gobi 1000.
Add 7 to your list....it's either 4, 7 or 13. I think 4.
