Okay, thanks for all your comments on my other thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/626319-cf-29e3kgzkm-battery-recald-wont-boot-windows.html
While I'm waiting for a hard drive to come to fix that newly acquired toughbook,
I have another question. Just purchased another toughbook nearby "CF-29EKGZKM DVD Writer TS-L632 that am cleaning up to give to our son that's deloying once again to Afghanistan next month. Everything is working and just made an Acronis boot disc and backup incase the HD fails. I wanted him to be able to watch DVD movies and when I popped in several movies, only one really old one worked but not the newer ones. Window Media Player alarmed that some copyright problems prevented the movie from loading.
Is there (and if so, what do you recommend) a program I need to purchase and load so dvd's can be played?
    Thank you, Cleve

I believe you've left off a character in the Model Number.

See if this isn't the description of your Toughbook:

    Model Number: CF-29ETKGZKM
    Status: DISCONTINUED
    MSRP: $4,488
    Description: Intel® Pentium M 718 1.3GHz LV (Centrino), 13.3" XGA Transmissive Touch Screen, 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, Intel® 802.11b+g WLAN, Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional

There are quite a few available DVD decoders (I use Roxio); some are free.

Start here: Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility

Thank You. I have Roxio but that did not work either. Your information is very helpful, I ran the Decoder Checkup Utility and it showed I had Sonic Cinemaster Video 4.2.0.0, but that it did not recommend using. I chose it anyway and now DVD's play no problem. Why would Windows Media Player that comes with XP Pro NOT have a decoder to play movies anyway? weird
Thanks again. This Toughbook is ArmyStrong now and ready for overseas!

Good question, I had the same with my CF30 and daughters CF29. Lucky I had a bundled software from years ago that worked. Hope your son stays well for his time over there. What power do they use? is it 220volts. All the best, Bob.

VLC, it's free and it will run virtually anything! WMP, Real, they all stumble on some codecs, VLC seems to run 'em all.

EDIT: Disregard this drivel, I haven't used optical media for movies in so long I forgot about the need for a player. :(

I've always used and installed the free version of Nero on the units I build to sell... I've never had an issue. I use the paid version of Nero on my desktops and personal laptops.
