    Hello all,
I'm new to toughbooks and am having some problems with one of the two that I have recently purchased and noticed that this is the place for expert advice so wondered if anybody out there could help me.
Having recently picked up an old M34 (400mhz 10gb 128mb) it is having problems with the hard drive. Originally it was jamming up with its Windows NT on the boot so I popped the drive out and placed it in my CF-28 and formatted it and installed Windows XP. Also, whilst I was at it, I popped the CF-28's 20gb XP SP2 drive into the M34 but it wouldnt work (the error message flashed past too quickly). So, anyways, with the original 10gb now working fine, I put it back in the M34 and it doesnt work again. It stops a little way after the windows XP logo comes on with an error about stopping to cause damage to the computer and suggesting that it could be a virus, a hardware setting, or a faulty hard drive and that I should run a CHKDSK/F which of course I did putting it back in the CF-28 again!
All in all, i'm confused - any ideas anybody?
Secondly. Which laptop is the better? my CF-28 is a MK1 so spec wise, what is the marketting difference between the 34 and the 28 other than its size and weight?
    Thanks everyone! Mixs.

Did you install XP on another laptop and then try to install it in the CF-M34? If so... It doesn't work that way. You need to install the OS on the system you intend to use it on or an exact copy of it. You can't install XP on a 28 and then transfer the drive over to the 34... You'll get the BSOD every time.

The differences between the 28 & the 34 are too numerous to list. I suggest you look on Pansonic's site and review the PDF on both. They each have their advantages and disadvantages. It depends on what you will be using it for. If I had to choose only one laptop between the two I'd take the 28 as you can carry along an extra battery or DVD... You can't do that with the 34, internally anyway.
