I used a external cd-rom on my CF-M34MK7...Panasonic CF-VDRRT3 . In the past I have used them cheap ($6.00) china cd-rom external case and put my own cd in them but some work and some don't. The Panasonic one never has let me down.

What CF-M34 are you using? The later Mks are better at booting from usb. Here is some info on them below, got a few tricks to getting the OS on there too. The reason it's bluescreening is the hardware difference, windows has already started the install and chosen the base hardware. I purchased the correct USB floppy drives and cd drives and put them up just for messing with the early toughbooks.

my toughbook is CF-M34UTFZKM serial number 3BKUA01149 with windows 2000 licence on the bottom of it. i have 256mb ram (base memory) and a 40gb HDD no cdrom for 2nd stage install (there is a usb port on the side but in the bios it doesnt say "removable devices") but does ask for a floppy or cdrom drive or a lan boot. maybe if i put a cdrom drive to it it might contuine the boot up process. ill have a try at that and see what happens.

Put the drive into the a31. Boot using a floppy. Copy entire Win2000 DVD to a new folder on the HDD. Remove HDD and put it in the CF34. Boot CF34 from floppy, Find new folder with win2000 files in it. Run setup.exe .........And Bob's your uncle.

Or spend $15.00 on an external DVD case, put the DVD drive from the A31 in the case and attach it to the Toughbook. If it boots, then your on your way. If it doesn't boot, then boot from a floppy with DVD drivers on it........

I have never owned a M34, but this is how I did install OS on older systems without a DVD drive.
