I have got a CF-P1 to see what they are all about. There is not much info on them. I would like to try to see if we can get all the info we know on them in this thread.

    Here's mine.

    Model Number:
    CF-P1P3CDZ6M
    Status :DISCONTINUED
    MSRP:$1,899
    Description: Intel PXA263-400MHz, 3.5" QVGA, 64MB, 802.11b, Bluetooth, PocketPC2003

I think mine can be used as a phone not just a PDA because it has a SIM card slot behind the battery. It came with a lot of accessory with it. Install cd, new unused battery, wrist strap, carry handle, serial cable, usb cable. I have turned it on twice and it turned off right away saying internal battery was dead or dying. Now it won't turn on at all, but I will be working on that soon.

I know two different keyboards were used:
    Fully qwerty type
    Number Pad type

    Processers:

    Options:
    GPS
    WWAN
    WLAN
    BLUETOOTH

    Operating systems:
    WINDOWS CE 2002
    WINDOWS CE 2003

Finally got around to doing some work on my CF-P1 and got it back to working. When I first got this unit it was new with unopened accessories. I turned it on twice in a row and got a alert that the backup battery was low. After the second time, that was it. It wouldn't turn back on even with a full nights charge.

I finally got a replacement battery and packed up everything to take to work with me to see about getting the bios style internal battery to working. Last night I got the battery swapped and it booted up. It gave me the backup battery alert once, but after a full nights charge I haven't seen it again so far.

Here are some shots of the internals. Mine has a SIM card slot under the battery but I don't think it has the phone parts made into it. The model number shows NONE at least WI-FI and Bluetooth is working. Going to see if I can mod a CF GPS into it, but forgot the GPS unit at home. I would like to see how hard it would be to put the phone module in it also.

Nice work so far with the details and pictures!

I had a P1 about a year ago. Used it as a phone for about 2 weeks. I just
could not work with the Win Mobile so I ended up selling it. They are a nice rugged unit, I wanted to add a CF Flash gps to mine and try to find the round top piece for it but had no luck. Search under my posts and you will find it.

I have gotten a few CF-U1's in and I must say they are really cool, nice and
small, full options and will run Win7/8 perfectly.

I got this to play with but had few other project jump infront. Not sure if it will be a long term keeper or not. I think it will fit under the lid if I take the compact flash GPS apart and mod the antenna part at a different angle. Will just have to see. The main think I would like to put back in it is the phone part.

I got a CF-U1 and like it alot. It is a Mk1 with 16gb hd, but it has factory GPS. I have xp on it and both xp and vista restore disks but I haven't tried 7 on it. Still haven't downloaded and test out 8 at all yet.

The U1 is definatly a nice unit. Mine is an MK2 with 64gb, GPS, Gobi2000, Barcode, Camera. I take it with me when I am on the road its alot easier then carrying around the big Getac I use.

I do have some 32gb SSD's and have a MK2 mainboard for the U1 left
over from my build along with some other misc. parts. Let me know if you are interested.

I got to do some upgrading to my CF-U1 when I get the chance. I am going to try out a 32GB SDHC (class 10)(yes the higher class make a BIG difference) card. They have dropped way down in price. Just wish Panasonic would of made the hard drive a standard 1.8" SATA interface. But for standard storage and you can swap them out on the fly will make them just right for a cheap, speedy upgrade.

Newegg.com - PNY 32GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model P-SDHC32G10-EF They even have some that are around 20 bucks.

Paul paul paul! Dude! You need to read again!

We aren't talking about SD drives! We are talking about the factory SSD primary hard drives man!

    I just saw your reply.

Yeah, SD cards are a way to get more storage... KINDA. They are NO WHERE near as fast!

    Thanks!

Agreed! For storage the SD is the only option for the P1 and U1. But I would stay with the SSD for my O.S. On a 16gb you can easily fit Win7. Then use the SDHC for data. Just run the heavy software from the SSD. I build all my desktops the same way, SSD for Windoz and software and conventional HD's for storage.

The SSD in the U1 is a 1" and it is a standard type with a zif connection. Doing a google search you can find suppliers for them. I have a 64gb Samsung and Transends in my U1's that I swapped out myself. Just make sure you insert the zif cable the correct way and not backwards otherwise you will fry the SSD. I have the part #'s for the 64gb's if you want them.
