    Hi,

I have a 2006 vintage CF-P2 Pocket PC / phone. My mates reckon that it receive texts in Latin, but I love it to bits.

I've had a UK Vodafone sim in it for years, but have recently changed to GiffGaff for cheaper calls.

It all works fine, apart from one really annoying problem which is that the phone keeps "waking up". In the past, it would only do so when a call or a text message was coming in, but now I think that the new sim gives me data capability (GPRS) as there is a "full G" icon on the main screen, which was never there with the old Vodafone sim.

It's not too bad when stationary, but when in the car, the phone screen almost permanently lit up and even if I turn it off, it will imediately light up again. I have the phone set to turn off at the minimum time, but it's still destroying standby battery life, which was one of the best points of the phone.

If I turn off the "wireless phone" element, it never wakes up without me pressing the switch, so it's definitely related to the new sim and, maybe, the fact that it now has GPRS?

Does anyone know how I can disable this function in the phone, or perhaps a "workaround", as I only need it for voice and text duties, not data access.

    Thanks.

Tried turning off bluetooth in case it's trying to link to your satnav or stereo in the car?
I have an old G1 that I use for phone only. I deleted the 3G APN, turned off GPS, WiFi & bluetooth to avoid data charges & battery drain.
Wasn't hard to find the settings in Android, don't know Windows phones but someone will. :)

Have turned off Bluetooth and have successfully enabled the connection that allows IE to browse basic websites, and the phone is now pretty good when just sat in the same place in the house, and it rarely wakes up.

Whenever I take it in the car, it just goes mad and is almost continuously lit up, to the point that it's not worth pressing the button to turn it off as it will immediately light up again.

What's the difference between being sat in the house and sat in a moving car, I wonder?

Tried turning off GPS? Mapping app installed and not working properly?
If you post the model number someone here may know its specification.
Maybe try Giffgaff helpdesk, look through settings for anything location-related, try it with your Vodafone sim again or borrow a sim to see if it's just with Giffgaff.
Bad contact at the battery terminals will cause some phones to cycle on and off, often when handled/moved etc. Not familiar with the P2 though, sorry.
