hi all i'm new here. i recently picked up a second hand Panasonic R3 which the previous owner had converted from Japanese to English but i don't think it was done completely right. the screen is very dim, i saw someone with a R3 at a coffee shop one time and the screen was much brighter. the sd card reader doesn't work and it's not listed under device manger. also when ever i plug in a pc card dvd drive which works fine on my brothers dell i get a BSOD. any help is greatly apreciated. thanks.

Try this website for drivers. Most of the utils are pretty useless as win XP. Give it a try. Just confirm whether all the devices are installed correctly within Win Device manager.

If you want to increase screen brightness, fn-f1/f2 should work. If that doesn't work, try Ctrl F1/F2.
As you can swap the Ctrl / FN within bioss (I've done that myself)

Not sure what you mean by 'converted from Jap to Eng'. As my keyboard's japanese. So I've got a few keys that can't be used due to the jap characters.

    Cheers,
