I just picked up a CF-U1AQBGKAM and was curious if anyone else out there has one. I haven't found much info on the net about them other than the usual press reviews etc. Any thoughts on mods or upgrades?

Specifically I'm looking for the exact type of flash modules these things have in them. Mine is a 16gb but I'd like to add something bigger. Of course before cracking it open I want to know what's inside so I can have a replacement on hand.

Also, mine doesnt seem to recognize the gps. It's got an option to enable/disable in the bios but it doesnt show up in computer management. I get two devices not recognized when it windows starts so I assume it the gps. I installed the registry patch, reinstalled the serial driver and finally reinstalled XP. Nothing seems to work. Any thoughts?

I wish I could afford to have one to give you an answer. Even more to be able to afford to hack one....

I got a pretty good deal on one, and it's not so much that I want to hack it as I want to upgrade it.

No one else out there has one?

    GPS
If it is anything like the 29, 30 and 19. There is no driver for GPS, it is mapped in the BIOS to a specific COM port. You will need an application such as "GPS Info" to test your communication to it. This can be found at the support site at usglobalsat.com.

northrk, Thanks for the reply, just by chance I got a response from panasonic support about the same time I saw your reply on the forum. You nailed it, turns out a driver has nothing to do with it. I tested the GPS, which is on COM2, using hyperterminal and indeed it is functioning. All I need is some mapping or GPS management software to connect to it and interpret the output for me.
I have a full version of Oziexplorer I purchased a few months ago and havent used much since then, I'll load it up on my U1 and give it a shot.

One problem down, and another to go.... anyone know what kind of on board SSD this U1 uses? I suppose I'll hit up panasonic support again.

    Thanks!
