Hi,
I have installed a CF-VDL02 screen in my boat as I could not see my Itronix Gobook II in the sunlight. I must say, for anyone wanting a sunlight readable display, it works really well, even in the bright Hawaiian sunlight. I do have a roof over my head however.
I am trying to get the touchscreen to work with the Itronix. Any recommendations on how to go about this? I have tried a few drivers ( the panasonic driver will not let me install) to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Try to extract the drivers with 7zip, winrar or universal extractor to do a manual install. I have the same setup on a CF-07 but haven't worked on my mounts or driver install yet.
-
Stupid question, but do you have the serial port hooked up? The touchscreen on this unit is serial driven.

Thanks for the responses...
I extracted the drivers and installed them manually to no avail. I also tried several other touchscreen drivers with no success.
I do have the serial cable hooked up, although it is going through a serial to usb cable.
I was reading another thread regarding this issue and it seemed the bios must be compatible??
Others have used tablet software and got it to work I believe...but I am not sure what software they were using.

The touchscreen is really nothing but a serial mouse so the bios should have nothing to do with it. The touchscreen is also not a special, Toughbook only, item(I don't think so anyway). So, you just have to find out who made the touchscreen and try their drivers. I assume the Itronix will work with pretty much anyone's mouse so it should work with the VDL02.

Edit: Gunze and Wacom to start with before you ask. -
I tried 3 different serial to usb adapters to connect my scopemeter to my Vaio which has no serial port. Couldn't make it work with any of them, don't know why.
One of the main reasons I started looking at Toughbooks was because they had serial ports.
The scope connects to my CF-29 with no issues. -
USB to serial adapters, will NOT WORKING, PERIOD under ANY circumstances with ANY VDL01 or VDL02 screen!
If you don't have a serial port, get rid of your computer and get a Toughbook!
Nuff said!
*Rob - feeling agitated for some reason!*

Thank you Rob! Saved me mucho time! I have a serial port in the goBook, but I unfortunaletly shorted it out in some heavy seas. That is why I went to the serial adapters. Looks like I will just use a mouse for a while.
I do have a CF 28 , but it crashed, and I needed to get something up and running. The 28 boots to the Windows screen and immediately goes back to reboot. Havent figured it out yet...perhaps a new thread? -

WELL: none of the CF-VDL0# displays are water-resistant!
Panasonic even issues a caveat that they are not to be used in such an environment:
"Do not expose the LCD monitor to water or excessive moisture. This couldcause electrical shorts, fire or other damage."
For water-resistance, look to the CF-VDW07 Wireless Display. -
If you get a CF-VDw07 you can keep your current wireless card for internet and add a second card in the hidden pcmcia card slot of the Gobook. It does require a daughter board for it if yours is not equipped.

Again thanks for all the suggestions. I have the CF-VDL02 screen mounted on the helm where it is fully protected similiar to being in a car.
I had a window open in front of where I had the gobook mounted and got into rough seas one day, and surmise this is why the serial port shorted..
The idea is to have the laptop mounted inside the cuddy and control it from the helm as there are lots of external connections for water to enter. Unfortunately this is the only place I can mount the laptop and control it...right by that window. I also needed a screen i could see in the bright sunlight.
Looks like I will just use a mouse until I can figure out the Toughbook.
Thanks for all the sugggestions...you guys rock! -
