I see that the CF-VEB522 port replicator is compatible with CF-52 mk1.

Surprisingly that docking station has a display port. Will it really work with mk1 (as the laptop itself has only VGA-out)?

It looks like no CF 52 has a display or HDMI port. Not even a mk5.
I know my high end ATI equipped mk4 does not have anything other than a VGA port.

I have a dock here. not sure if it is a VEB522 or VEB521. I will look later on.
If possible I will test it out. Pretty sure I have all the needed components to hook it up and test it.

Here is an interesting chart. The info numbers may not be correct....

The information on the picture is untrue. The VGA max resolution is 2,048 by 1,536 pixels at 85 hertz.

The DisplayPort easily supports 3840×2160 (UHD) at 120 Hz. Theoretically it can support even 7680×4320 (8K) at 30 Hz.

Only the original HDMI 1.0 was up to 1920×1200 (1080p) at 60 Hz. The current widespread 1.4 variant supports 4k with no problems.

As for the DVI - the Dual Link standard (which is not very common) supports up to 2560×1600 are supported at 60 Hz. The widespread cables and supports is the Single Link which is 1920×1200 at 60 Hz.

Anyway most video cards do support at least 2560×1600 at 60 Hz, including the crappy forgotten even by the manufacturer ATI HD2300 card, which is in the CF-52 mk1. Modern video cards support UHD resolutions. And it's not actually the resolution that bothers me - I am more interested in that because DisplayPort is digital while VGA is analogue. That's the bigger difference as I won't be using old CRT monitor for sure. The digital signal is much better than the analogue. Not that VGA is that bad but dvi/hdmi/displayport is much better :)

Bonus tip: the difference between DVI-D and DVI-I is that the DVI-I do support both digital and analogue signal (something like a backwards compatibility with VGA, but not exactly), while DVI-D is only digital. To tell if you have a dual or single link cable, you must look at the pins of the connector - dual link has much more holes on the port and respectively pins on the connector of the cable :)

    great info.

My desktop monitor has DVI and VGA inputs. I do have an adapter thingy that has Display port input and several outputs.

    Number 6000 Yay Me!

The VEB522 and the multiport video adapter
Connected to DVI input on my LED flat screen monitor
    CF52S mk4 with ATI
Works perfectly at 1920x1080 (this is the max resolution for an ATI equipped CF52)
The 52 auto switched to the higher resolution when I docked it. Normally I use 1280x800 on the 52's internal screen. It reverted back when removed from the dock.
