Got back to working on my cf-w2 and got another one off of ebay. The first one i got worked fine once I got the harddrive cable problem sorted out. Then one night the back light on it went out. A couple of days later i tried it again and it was working. Then it sat on the shelf until my ex stepdaughter came over to spend the week. After a couple of days it went out again. The other unit i got from ebay the screen flickers on half the screen. Is the backlight fuse on the motherboard or contained behind the screen? OR does this sound like the inverter? Never had to change one out before.

Sounds to me like the cable that supplies juice to the inverter. It wraps part way around the hinge mechanism and is prone to rubbing and wearing through the insulation. You might be able to save it with some clever tape wrapping and not have to swap out any parts but be careful as the wires are pretty thin.
