I need to open up my faithful Toughbook CF-W4 to resolve a problem with the display. I figure while I have the screwdrivers out I might as well upgrade the HD, as the current one is only 80 gig.

I have found some references on the Internet to replacing a Toughbook HD and needing to modify the new drive by removing or taping pins so as to lower the voltage.

However, I also find a reference to using a Samsung HM160JC HD in a CF-W4 without modification (<http://www.leog.net/fujp_forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11296>).

Does anybody have any suggestions, insights, or experience with the CF-W4, or even this exact model of drive, to share? The HM160JC is cheap and would be big enough for my needs, and if I can install it safely without any modifications, well, I'll be as happy as a pig in mud.

    Thanks!

I'm going to bump this. I edited the original post, which I think may have been unclear. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated!

Start here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265815, then follow the link Alex posted in the thread. The problem did get solved! If you in fact have a 1.8" hard drive, they are available. The biggest I have bought is 20GB for a CF-07. Be careful, most of the 1.8" drives have a ZIF interface (most commonly used in iPods and the like) and will not work in your computer. I did find a 128GB SSD, but the price was prohibitive. Let us know how you make out.
