Found an old thread on here from 2008 through google where it was said that this wont work with a MK3, but will it work with my CF-29ENKNXKM?

also, how do these wire up? are any special wiring harnesses needed or just apply 12VDC and the power supply is built in?

They require the same power your Toughbook needs
    Approx 16vdc
    Lind makes the dc/dc adapter
If this is an older docking station you use the old cf-28 style black dc plug and the lind adapter is only $20 or so used as there are lots around

the kodiak style have built in power supplies that just need 12VDC wired to them. Are there any cons associated with these as opposed to the panasonic docks? Also, the power plug on these, from what I can see, looks interestingly like the 4 prong power plug for desktop HDDs inside my tower computer?????

all im looking for is power, parallel, video out, USB, speaker/headphone out, and PS/2.

I want one to hook up in my trailer so i dont have to hook up all my peripherals separately, and then im looking for just a mount for my truck, dont need any port replication in the truck, just a secure mount and the ability to lock it in place. but if the price is right then ill buy two replicators.

I am not familiar with the kodiak docks

I have sold a few panasonic and they use the standard dc plug

The main brand that my customers prefer are the gamber johnson

The Kodiak Intelligent Docking Station, the RAM Tough-Dock and the Gamber-Johnson PanDock vehicle docks are all "powered docks": they have built-in power supplies requiring only a 12V power source from the vehicle.
All the vehicle docks are equipped with the same peripheral connectors as the CF-VEB272A2W desktop-only port replicator.

You may want to jump on this one:

CF-WEB273 Vehicle mount Port Replicator for Toughbook

The components alone are worth a lot more that the "Buy It Now" price!

    Correction

Kodiak and Ram mount are able to run from 12vdc

    Panasonic and Gamberjohnson require 15.6vdc

IF you are talking about the web27x dock, i have one, and they have i/o on the back of the dock for standard connectors (including power), and also ide style plugs on the underside so you can fabricate custom cables or whatever. the power on the bottom is a 4 pin flat connector, and it is NOT found inside of a desktop pc case, so far as I know. It's closer to a floppy drive power plug than a hdd plug.

And you can pull the lock, drop it off at a smith, and tell them to use an ilco lf10 blank. should cost about $15 for 2 keys.

Correct me, if I'm wrong, please?

I should have checked this earlier:

    CF-29ENKNXKM DESCRIPTION:
Pentium M 1.3GHz LV (Centrino), 13.3" XGA Transmissive Touchscreen, 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, Floppy Disk Drive, Intel 802.11b+g WLAN, Win XP Pro, Rubber Backlit Keyboard, Dual Hi-Gain Pass-hrough Connectors, WIRELESS READY, Secured HDD/Battery doors

Being a "Dual Connector" system changes the docking stations usable (if you want to use the connectors, that is ;)).

It will not work with single-pass-through docks, as the connector will not line up with either of the dual connectors. :(

It will work with non-pass-through docks, though; just no external WLAN/WWAN antennas can be used.

So will the WEB273 docks use my CF-29 AC power supply or will I have to get a CF-28 AC power supply?

The Panasonic dock requires a power adapter with the CF-28 (MP205) end.

You have the option of utilizing a gender changing cable with a CF-28 power adapter to power the undocked CF-29, such as this one from Lind Electronics:

4-inch Panasonic mating connector gender changer cable. Allows power adapters from older Panasonic laptops to be used with the newer models

Since you specifically mentioned " AC", do you have a 12V power adapter to use with the Panasonic dock in a vehicle?

I have an AC converter and plan on using that since the AC chargers are a lot cheaper than the 12VDC ones.

Aside from looking at the dock connector, how else can i tell by looking at the dock if its no/1/2 pass through? Like from ebay pics, how can i tell?

If there is a clear enough photo of the male connector which mates up with the back of the laptop you will be able to see 1 or 2 brass connectors to the side of that connector. If you have a pass through connector on your computer just look for a matching connector on the dock.

Can the SINGLE pass thru dock be modified to accomidate my toughbook? Like remove the single pass thru connector from the dock and still use the rest of the dock's features and port replication?

No read need to remove the single connector, as there is sufficient "play" in the connector's mounting to allow a dual connector-equipped Toughbook to dock securely and function correctly (except for external antenna, of course :p ).

I tested this with my own single connector dock and dual connector Mk5 Toughbook.

The single connector simply sets between the duals of the Tougjbook w/o make any connections. Leaving the connector in place allows for future use with a single-connectored unit (one can never have too many Toughbooks ;) ).

OK, what are the dock/port replicator part numbers that work with CF-29's?

I just found CF-VEB272's but they are WAY expensive. What are some others?

Ideally I'm looking for a desktop and a vehicle mount, but since the vehicle ones so far are CHEAP, I can make do with a vehicle at my desk and just power it with an AC adapter, but a desktop one might work better?

    Kodiak Intelligent Docking Station

    RAM Tough-Dock™

    Gamber-Johnson PanDock

However, the truth is that any of these docks, Panasonic or aftermarket, are not "cheap" when purchased new from a retail supplier.

Used on ebay they are quite cheap

Vehicle docking stations usualy don't sit flat , as the conector breakout is quite often under them and are quite heavy and will mark up your desktop

With the genuine Panasonic vehicle docks, they can be made "flat" on the bottom with the Gamber-Johnson Mounting Interface Plate (Toughbook 27/28/29). :)

This item is necessary to mount the unit in a vehicle in the first place. ;)

As to non-Panasonic docks, YMMV.

I was mainly meaning the panasonic part numbers. I have found the aftermarket ones.

    Also, I found this:
Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 CF-28 Car Dock for used laptops CF-WEB273

and called about it. they said that it needs minor modifications to work with the cf-29??? and they have another version of the same thing (both WEB273) that works with CF-29s and a key for $99. That makes me no sense.

CF-WEB2912 CF-29, CF-30 Vehicle mount Port Replicator (supports USB2.0) with dual high-gain wireless (WWAN/WLAN) connectors built-in** AC Adaptor NOT included

    See above.

Probably the "modification" would be if your CF-29 has pass-thru connectors, as the one they advertise is without pass-thru.

One other thing; the earlier docks were not USB 2.0 compliant, so any USB peripheral would be slower with the earlier versions.

    WEB273 you did not list.

273 and 2732 are two different models

    Learn about Panasonic's CF-WEB273

    Learn about Panasonic's CF-WEB2732

from what i can see, the 273 is USB 1.1 and has NO antenna pass throughs. We have already established that a single or double computer WILL fit on a non pass through dock.

I expect to be ordering a couple of the johnson units in the next few days, as far as the speaker holes......thats 2mins on my drill press.

    Yes.
Apparently you missed this from my previous posting:

"One other thing; the earlier docks were not USB 2.0 compliant, so any USB peripheral would be slower with the earlier versions."
True as to the 273 "plain": the pass-thru version is 273 "CBL"
And that the dual pass-thru Toughbook will work on a single pass-thru dock (and vice versa).
Since the Panasonic dock requires a base interface plate (which itself will block any sounds emanating from a docked CF-29's speaker), such holes serve no true purpose, IMHO. :)

OK, so I have a cbl.
And I used a 1/4" thick aluminum plate, drilled some holes in the sides, and used 1/4" sheet metal screws to attach my "base plate" to my dock. I use a cable to plug the dock sound out to the stereo in, so the speaker hole is a mute point for me, BUT, I think it would be loud enough that you could hear it, depending on where it's mounted in the car (in realation to your ear). Not saying it would blast, but I think it would work for GPS and system sounds.... actually, now that I think about it, I can hear the speaker when I unplug the stereo cable from the dock. Like I said, not the best, but workable.

The idea I have for making a mounting plate for the dock would leave about an inch or so below there, but i hate the dang GPS voice prompts anyway, i like to look at the next turn a while ahead.

anyway, shouldnt be a problem. i was originally gonna just get a holder for my truck and plug in my charger to the inverter, but the holders are more expensive than the docks from bob johnson! ($19.99)

and i picked up a lind power adapter for it off ebay for $23 shipped, brand new! theres more in stock still it seems.

now, for the locks on these babys, are they easy to remove, and can b possible replaced with like a cabinet lock cylinder or are they not so easy to replace. will i have to get a lock smith to make me a key from scratch then?
