I have a CF-Y7 with 1GB (soldered onto MB). I want to upgrade it to 2GB.
Does anyone know if any 1GB 172pin MicroDimm PC2-4200 un-buffered non-ECC stick will work or if it is some kind of proprietary ram.
-
It is not proprietary. You are free to purchase any brand you choose. Newegg.com has good prices and a simple return procedure if you happen to get any defective RAM.
-
Doesn't look like newegg has any of the microDimm's in stock. They have two kingston sticks that have been discontinued.

Unfortunately, in the case of the Y7: ⁸No memory upgrades are available for your Panasonic Toughbook Y7 Laptop/Notebook.”
However:
Panasonic Toughbook Y7 (CF-Y7) Memory -
Yeah, I'd already checked crucial and saw the same thing.
That memoryx price isn't too bad. Some places were charging stupid amounts of cash for that 1GB chip ($80+), $50 is at least in the ballpark.
The reason I asked is that I saw the 172 pin PC2-4200 microDimms for a Fujitsu ultra-portables for a good price on ebay but I have no idea if they are truly compatible. -
Here is another one:
1GB PC2-4200 (533Mhz) 172 pin DDR2 MicroDIMM (BWP)
Same part number as the memoryx chip. I have bought memory from this company and had very good service. -
Even better.

I have 2 Y7's with 2GB. I bought the upgrade modules on eBay. Had pretty good prices.
Good luck,

I ended up going to ebay as well.
I was looking at some microDimms that were pulled from a fujitsu ultra-portable that had the same specs (seller only wanted $20) but I instead went with a seller who guaranteed the ram to work in the y7. Got 1GB for a bit better than $30.
