    Hey everyone,

I bought a Toughbook CF-Y7. It comes with 1g ram, 140 gb hd, L7500 CPU

My question is why is 2gb ram max. Also if I want to upgrade the RAM, what kind would I need.

    THanks

I think it has to do with the MicroDIMM memory modules. I have only seen them in 1GB max with the exception of Fujitsu which makes a 2GB module for several hundred dollars and I am not sure it is compatible. Here is the spec sheet CF-Y7 spec sheet

You can go to Conics.net. It is usually the cheapest place for these specialised Panny MicroDIMMS.I have bought memory from them twice - they are good and deliver pretty fast

The RAM limitation would probably be a function of the chipset and motherboard. This Y series uses a low-voltage CPU with the onboard RAM soldered to the motherboard and only one other slot available.

If you want to max out on RAM on these Y/W/T/R series, your best bet is to buy the top model with the biggest RAM available from factory. That way, your soldered slot has the biggest RAM possible to begin with.
