    Anyone know the part number?

They came on the British Telecom CF18's and I don't know what else...

A while back I repainted a black latch silver. It looked decent, but it chipped.
A co worker has a soda blaster, so I ask him to blast a latch for me...I then polished it mildly with my Dremel.
This is the results...I am pleased....It's a cast metal so I don't think it will tarnish..

I scored a Haz Loc strap with the silver catches and leather pad 2 days ago....It should match up nicely with the LCD latch.

do you know anyone that does "powder coating" ?
these type of finishes tend to hold up much better than regular paint .

There is a local company here that will powder coat. They do it as a daily business. They have this cash nightly thing they do for us folks with projects.......Let me know if you can't find any other options and I can get them done.

Just 1 latch? Would you have more parts to do the same color? Get me an answer and I will try and get a quote next week.

What kind of prep work before powder coating?
Group buy is an interesting idea...

polish and clean , remove any burrs , degrease with solvent ...
although the guys doing the powder coating will clean/degrease to their specifications before processing .

    remove the paint .
powder coating utilizes *baking* of the parts to fuse the paint .

compatibility between existing coatings and the processes involved would have to be determined by the operators ...
and this translates into $$$ .

yeah , it would be nice to be able to touch-up those unsightly dings in the finish .

they burn the coating off before powder. OR... if its not too much of a pain, I will just glass bead blast before I take it all in.

    now there's an idea ...
for those that do not own a bead/sand blaster , prepping them would most likely produce results that were not near as good .
plus , you know the requirements of the shop you take the stuff to .

for those that do have access , prepping to *bare metal* is essential ...
the guys doing the process will most likely do a final degrease/clean .
